Amazing Photos of Abandoned Places

Stumbled upon a couple of very cool link sites today, one of which was pretty much a site with a long, long list of other sites with no descriptions or order of any kind. Just a list of sites. Strange but some pretty cool links nonetheless.

One link I followed took me to a site which hosts links to the galleries of both amateur and professional photographers who specialize in abandoned things, places, etc. Here are a couple of those sites.

The first is the gallery of Matthew Christopher. His work is nothing short of amazing! The places he has shot are spectacular and the images transport you back in time to when these places were operational yet inspire the imagination of how things must have been back then. His site is appropriate titled Abandoned America and has tons of his photos displayed. You can choose a gallery by category or click the "highlight reel" gallery for a sampler of all of his galleries. This site is well worth the click. I promise you won't be disappointed!

The second site is actually kind of eery and lonely. It's a gallery of photos taken by an AP news-journalist of what was touted to be, "The Largest Amusement Park in Asia!" Unfortunately, the project was abandoned due to disagreements between the farmers who's land was basically being stolen by the gov't. and a gov't that can't be trusted. Fascinating how far along this project actually had gotten before they finally walked away from it leaving gigantic shells of buildings and entrances and pathways to nowhere. Very cool gallery but unfortunately there's only 21 pics total.

Some really amazing photography on both sites. This is from the second site. A volcano in Southern Chile in 2011. The pictures are too big to embed, so just click the links.

When you look at some of the places that have been abandoned in the not so distant past like the one church he shot with the high, domed ceiling... it makes you wonder what the circumstances were that they literally just walked away from it leaving that once very expensive organ and all the oak pews to rot and decay. He really is a talented photog. I ended up being on his site for over an hour before I realized it!

Cool volcano pics! Bee-you-tee-ful color in those, no? Just stunning!
