NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The bassist for the rock group 3 Doors Down has been charged with vehicle homicide by intoxication after a fatal crash late Friday night on Interstate 40 near Hermitage.

Officers said Robert Todd Harrell, 41, who lives in Mt. Juliet, TN, was driving a 2011 Cadillac CTS westbound on I-40 at a high rate of speed when his car clipped a 2003 Ford F-150 pickup.

The pickup, driven by Paul Howard Shoulders, Jr., 47, or Horseshoe Drive, went out of control, struck a guardrail, traveled down an embankment and overturned, police said.

Shoulders was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected, according to investigators. He was transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Police said Harrell's vehicle struck the retaining wall and stopped about a quarter of a mile away.

Officers said Harrell showed indications of impairment during field sobriety tests and appeared to be under the influence of an intoxicant. Police said he acknowledged consuming hard cider and taking prescription Lortab and Xanax. A search warrant was obtained for a mandatory blood sample from Harrell.

Harrell is also charged with bringing controlled substances into the jail. During a search at the booking room, Davidson County Sheriff's deputies discovered a plastic bag concealed in Harrell's sock that contained 8 Xanax pills, 24 Oxycodone pills and 4 Oxymorphone pills.

That was all of the first article then i did an internet search on Harrell and he has hurt someone before in another DUI just last year and you think he would've learned his lesson the first time...what i found below on the search....

He was also arrested on suspicion of DUI In July 2012 after allegedly crashing into another vehicle in southern Mississippi....

3 Doors Down bassist Todd Harrell was arrested for ‘DUI-other’ on the morning of Thursday, July 19,2012 for reportedly driving under the influence of a narcotic. He was taken in by D’Iberville, Mississippi police after his involvement in a car accident where he allegedly failed to stop at an intersection and slamming his black Cadillac into the rear of a silver Toyota truck, causing "heavy damage" to both vehicles.

Harrell reportedly plowed into a silver Toyota truck driven by 44-year-old Ocean Springs resident Darryl Thibodeaux at approximately 7:08 AM. Thibodeaux was taken to Ocean Springs Hospital after suffering neck and back injuries. The 40-year-old bassist, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was charged with ‘DUI-other,’ which is the term for an individual being under the influence of any controlled substance besides alcohol.

According to D’Iberville police captain Clay Jones, Harrell did consent to have blood drawn after police suspected that he was high on some sort of drug. Harrell was released after posting a $1,000 bail.

Outside of nearly every one of their albums sounding the same, I love this band's music and it's sad that the rock and roll lifestyle has taken yet another innocent life, not to mention the harm it's done to everyone involved on both sides. People need to get their shit together.
