Movies you can't not watch.

Postby Rick » Tue Apr 30, 2013 8:29 am

I'm sure all of you have a few movies that, while you're scrolling through your cable menu, that you can't scroll past.

Lately, mine have been the Men In Black trilogy. I have a tough time scrolling past any Rocky movie and Apollo 13 also.

I will never pass up watching any Rocky movie on cable, even though I own all six of them on Blu-Ray, DVD and the first five of them on VHS.

Others that I own on many different formats that I will still watch when they're on cable are all of the...
Rambo
James Bond
Lethal Weapon
Die Hard
The Karate Kid
Major League...Franchises.

The remake of On the Beach, with Armand Assante and Rachel Ward.

A super downer movie but it draws me like a moth to the flame every time I see that it's on.

This one scene just hits me, no matter how many times I see it. Maybe that is what good storytelling is all about. As a parent it makes you think what if you had to make the same choice.

I love Rocky too, the first two are my favs! I love all the "brat pack" movies too, and Christmas Vacation and Top Gun and a bunch of others I'll watch no matter how many times I've seen them before, lol.

The first two Back To The Future movies. My wife loved those back in the late 80's when we were first dating and I love watching them with her still.

As for my own: That oldie but goodie Capricorn One. Kill Bill for the Japanese elements & Death Proof for the cool American muscle cars and the hot chicks, plus the kick that fuckheads ass at the end which was pretty funny.

I thought the remake was very well done, if not more heart wrenching than the original. Have you see the original?

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

1. Forrest Gump-Without a doubt, my favorite movie of all time.

2. Young Frankenstein-Watch it stoned. You'll never laugh harder and you'll thank me later.

3. The Pianist-What made it one of my favs you may ask? At the end of it, you will know.

4. Love Story-Yes, I'm a hopeless romantic. Now, fuck you Liam!

5. Caddyshack-Love it and have watched it many, many times!

Oh shit! Love Story....The late 60's/early 70 tear jerker. I remember my mother bawling over that movie, though I was too young to understand wft was going on and why she was crying. That and Born Free which I think they came out around or about the same year give or take.

Good choices. Love The Green Mile. I would have to watch that one. Sam Rockwell's character was very well placed in that movie for comic relief. Which reminds me of another one I have a hard time passing up, which is The Shawshank Redemption.

Rounders is a great movie too.

Yeah, I saw the original when I was a kid. The remake though was more believable and darker IMO.

So many great movies that people are posting that are just great. Raiders of the lost ark, fantastic. Fast times at

Ridegemont high, classic. Aliens, fuckin A! The Blues Brothers with the awesome jam band at the end, great!

Also, the Dirty Harry Callahan movies were good for sure, but Eastwoods spaghetti westerns were a notch above

them.

Yeah, and ya know, as I read the posts since I posted there have been a bunch that would most def fall into this category - the first of which (and I can't even believe I forgot to list it...) Caddyshack!! I mean c'mon... is there another movie in history that has as many quotable lines? Maybe Animal House)  Next would have to be Blues Brothers. Agree completely about the jam band and the indoor car chase was and still is one of, if the best chase scenes in history. They tried hard with the chase in BB2 but all it amounted to was a shitload of Plymouth Fury's dressed up like cop cars stacking up. Yawn...
Also have to add to my list pretty much anything with John Candy and/or Steve Martin.

Regarding Phoebe Cates... That scene instantly became not only an identifiable pop culture bookmark but also fodder for the spank bank of more than one teenaged boy "pulling" himself through puberty! One of my very first jobs was as an usher at the theater at the local mall and when I started working there, Fast Times had just been added to the Midnight Movies so I got to see it countless times.
My Cousin Vinny... 3 words: "The two utes" LMFAO!! And Maris Tomei's oh-so-graphic description of hunting from a deer's perspective. Awesome!

Also needing to be added is Breakfast Club. For those of us who were born in the 60's, grew up in the 70's and became adults in the 80's... this movie is iconic!
And finally (for now...) Any of the Nat'l Lampoon Vacation movies. So, so many great scenes. One of my favorite scenes of any movie ever was in Christmas Vacation when Chase goes off on his tirade because of no Christmas bonuses.
