Gas pump prank turns couple into Internet sensation

We’ve all gotten used to those ubiquitous pump-topping TV screens that scream inane chatter at us while we wait for our hilariously overpriced gas to top up. But what if one of them started talking directly at you? Such is the nature of this "Tonight Show" prank, in which a talking head on a gas pump screen charmingly bantered with Will Sims. Sims took the prank in-stride (we would have screamed "Big Brother is watching!" and fled the scene) and then, with the help of his wife, Monifa, the couple dipped into some impromptu karaoke with more charisma and musical talent than an episode of "American Idol." Well played, guys! People — the best thing about the world.

It's so refreshing to see a genuinely happy, "be in the moment", couple. These two were great and you can tell they're great together. I literally LMAO during the part when he was singing and she was cracking up in the car. So, so funny!

funny, but staged,
its sad when even the talk shows have to fake stuff to get a couple laughs.

It still is a riot! That was great, acting or not. I loved thinking that it was real and believing that the guy was bodacious enough to believe that a television channel could pick him up at a pump in anywhere USA, talk to him and convince him to sing. Heck, the anchor man convinced him to sing and even get his girlfriend to sing a long with him. It didn't take much time to realize it probably was not true but it still is very funny; they had me laughing and we all need all the laughter we can get in this crazy world we live in.

Love that he lists Journey first when telling the news anchor the bands he likes from the 80's, 8)

Guy: What 'you want?
Anchor: What d'ya got?
Guy: Oh, I'm a 80's kid, so .. I like Journey, Bon Jovi...
Anchor: Bon Jovi...?

That kind of raised an eyebrow for me. I'm sure there are some, but how many black men would list Journey and Bon Jovi as bands they like, when he could have said anything?

That would be like me listing Lil Wayne and Meek Mill.

Well.... it's not completely impossible that he would list those two bands.... I mean there were a couple of rockers who represented the black community. Jimmi for one and Living Color of course but, you're right. It's not very likely.
Then again, he DID know the song fairly well, even if he was reading the lyrics. And when his wife did the Eurythmics tune, he definitely knew the nuances and adlib portions of that one pretty damn well.

It was staged. They are actors. That takes all the steam out of it being spontaneous fun by an unknowing couple.

it was funny, but the whole way through I kept thinking, no couples are like this.
Maybe Leno didn;t know, but why did he go out of his way to say it was staged, and the actress just had to make the comment, If it was staged I wouldnt have dressed like I just went to the gym.

Really makes me think all of the Jaywalking, Photo booths, ect are staged as well.

Set up by the producers, of course Leno knew about it. She was on it before. Why appear in an outfit like you just came from the Gym? Oh I don't know, maybe to throw off the idea that it was staged? The less time Leno has on the air, the more desperate Leno becomes.
