New TV Series

Postby Memorex » Sat May 18, 2013 3:54 am

I'm kind of enjoying the new 10-16 episode series that are going on. The Following, Bates Motel, Hannibal (they better not cancel it), etc. Not sure which series started the trend. Maybe Damages. Or maybe the stuff on HBO. It does suck when it's over so soon and I think it gives less time to dig into characters, but if it is done right, it can be rewarding for the viewer.

Thoughts?

I've got away from television. I only watch mostly sporting events and what not, but a show I can't get enough of that actually gets me NEAR a television set, a show I CANNOT MISS, is American Horror Story. A renewed 3rd season is on its way. In a world of unoriginal concepts, American Horror Story is a breath of fresh air. Truly a stunning series.

Dude, the first season of AHS used every trope out there and swiped from myriad horror films.

I didn't watch the second season. Couldn't get into it.

However...the third season is titled AHS: Coven and THAT sounds like something I may dig.

Aside from NCIS, CSI (the original), Castle, Breaking Bad and Dexter, I pretty much only watch comedies and docu's. Two new comedy series that are pretty funny so far are, How to Live With Your Parents and Family Tools. As for British comedies, there's a brand new one that's just hysterical called Vicious about an elderly gay couple who can't stand each other. It's a riot! Another BBC new offering is The Wright Way. It's an exaggeration of "Safety First" in all things. Some very good writing here.

Well, "24" broke the mold on television seasons with 24 episodes per season, well sometimes 22.

Seriously? Already? Damn! Oh well, Arrested Development's new season starts in just a few days so, at least there's that.
It just sucks when the network brass don't give shows a chance to let the characters develop and cancel them so quickly. Then there's the decisions to cancel a show that just completely makes no sense and leaves the public asking WTF? Perfect example of that was Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. Excellent show with great writing, a great cast and a huge following. Then, BAM! Cancelled.

Agreed. I liked that show. I almost never watch first season shows anymore, but this year I got hooked in on Hannibal and Bates Motel. I know Bates Motel is renewed, but Hannibal is on the edge. I read today that if Hannibal gets dropped from NBC, Amazon or a network may pick it up. It's a really well done show.
