The History of the Eagles

Anyone seen this?

Don Felder left in tears, but Glen Frey called him an asshole. Are the Eagles getting ready to break up again? I grabbed bits and pieces of it. I'll watch it again soon, but it seems these guys don't get along at all.

big $ gets them back on stage, and minus Felder (been gone since 2000ish)is one less share to pay.
I heard they dont even talk off stage.

I did watch it and have read Don Felders book. I can kinda see both sides of it, as far as the Felder / Frey dispute.
On one hand, Don was an official partner, which should give him right to be informed about, and involved in all
business matters. On the other hand, Frey is right. After the rebooting of the band, an equal split is probably not
fair to Frey & Henley. Felder was making great money, I think if he had to do it over again he would just keep his
mouth shut, enjoy the performing and paycheck and call it a day. You dont hear Timothy B or Joe complain about
money.

I wonder if Joe even knows what city he's in anymore.

Watched the whole thing last night - Whew! 3+ hrs... Lots of cool info I didn't know. For instance, all these years I was led to believe Henley was the asshole of the band who couldn't get along with anyone and was petty. Turns out it was Frey for the most part. Hmm... interesting.

Yup, read the Felder book. Frey's an ass. Always knew it. I always had heard Henley too, but it's clear to me that Frey was the bigger ahole of that band- and Henley's a genius.
Felder was an equal member. Walsh/Schmidt were not and still aren't. They're hired hands basically. Azoff was Felder's mgr too but was clearly REALLY working for Henley and Frey and they all three screwed Felder. Felder should've had as much of a paycheck and say as Henley and Frey MINUS their writing royalties of course.

I was wondering how the Eagles thing would be. I'll have to check it out. Their last album, sans-Felder, SUCKED. Most boring album I've ever heard. Kept waiting for someone to come in and say "Okay, now we're going to take xrays and give you a fluoride treatment" when I listened to it.

I think your spot on B, Felder did get a very good settlement though, but basically he was screwed.

I agree, and not only was it bad they did 2 discs of bad songs

I just finished the vid , loved it,very interesting but something was left out, these guys did some touring in the 90's without henley, and joe had alluded to henley not wanting to come out with them. Frey was there but henley was missing, didnt hear anything about that in the video.

I agree, except for some. Felder contribution to the band was immense. He turned what was a slightly country sounding/singer songwriter group to a more edgier laid back rock band. "Hotel California" propelled these fuckers to the limelight, written by none other than Felder. He's one of the most underrated guitarist and the 2 "GODS" are useless without him. I agree with Bry on the comment about Schmidt, he's just an hired hand (no pun intended) who writes pussified lyrics. I'll take Meisner any time over this wannabe. Now, Walsh, he's an fantastic guitarist and when he's right, can come up with a good tune every now and then. "life in the fast lane" is Walsh's baby and one of the Eagles better tunes. What I think after watching this dvd and reading Felder's book besides the obvious is that Frey & Henley as you can attest by the last Eagles album (Which throughly sucked major mountain oysters), that they wanted and thought that going country was the thing for them to do. EPIC FUCKING FAIL! Just look at what Frey did for his latest solo album, what? Trying to be a crooner of the 50's? LOL. Fuck, I thought I smoked some good ganja but his most be laced with angel dust! And now Henley is about to release, you guessed it, a country album. LOL, what a fucking waste of time. Look, Felder, along with the rest of the founding members deserve much more than Frey & Henley could EVER give them. They were what made THE EAGLES one the the greatest bands in history and unless they bring Felder back into the fold, they'll never get another dime of my money.

I remember when Frey & Walsh went on tour together. I think that's what he was referring to.

One thing about the whole Felder deal that REALLY sucked was that Joe Walsh didn't side with him and stick up for him. Granted, it would've been rocking the boat, but Felder (according to Felder) had helped Joe out quite a bit with the sobriety thing and he and Joe were supposedly great friends. For Joe to kind of just turn his back on him was so uncool.

And if it weren't for Walsh and Felder, I would've never paid an iota of attention to The Beagles in the first place. Contender for Most Overrated Band Ever in my book. I don't really care if this band exists. I have Joe's solo albums for my fix. Too bad he didn't side with Don F. Henley and Frey can both fellate each other for all I care. I hate Henley's voice.

I dont know what Joe could have done. He isn't a full member, He would be going against not just Frey but Azoff
as well. If he wasnt going to fight for an equal share for himself, what good would it do to piss off those guys for Felder?

Well, just having him say "Hey Guys, what you're attempting to do to Felder isn't right." would've probably gone a long way, but just to pretty much turn his back on him, and not speak to him ever again, is crap. Sorry, loyalty's a big deal to me.

I have a feeling theres more to this than has been made public.

It's a great documentary. Really came out of it thinking Frey and Henley would be two guys you wouldn't want to hang out with. I read somewhere Henley fired a roadie for making eye contact and waving at him during the 80s or 90s solo days . Not the most likable people in rock and roll.

I met Henley in the 80's by chance and at that time I really didn't know who the hell he was. I was working at a Ford / Nissan / RV Center. He happened through town and was having some work done on an RV. While he was waiting he wandered over to the Nissan lot and was browsing at some small trucks. I actually talked to him for a bit and we shook hands. He said he was Don Henley and it was "nice talking with you". He then walked back over to the RV shop. A couple minutes later a coworker asked me who that was because he looked familiar. I said his name is Don Henley. My coworker said, you dumb ass, have you no idea who that is? I shrugged and said no, I guess not. A few minutes later there was a small crowd gathered and he was signing autographs.

You just never know who you might meet!

Agreed, and you can tell how hurt Felder is at the end of the docu as he is talking about what it is he misses and the tears well up in his eyes and his voice cracks and he gets up from the interview and says, "That's it. Sorry guys..."

My wife and I both teared up at that point in the show. It didn't feel right at all. Such a downer to a great story.

You got to remember, Walsh had his share of "issues". And when your not always at full mental capacity, you don't remember a whole helluva lot. I would imagine it he did say something at one point or another. It just fell on deaf ears.

Over rated? WTF? Can't believe you fuckin said that. Granted, Henley can probably be a prick sometimes, but what "Star" can't be? I like his voice, smooth, easy on the ears, mellow. Fits the style very well.

Joe Walsh. Very good guitarist. Has a distinct edge to his tone. Not in Felder's league but fits in well and the EAGLES are his cash cow. His singing, well, he shouldn't be. He should be the poster boy for auto-tune.

Well the harmonies and dedication to quality recordings are certainly not overrated with this band
But I would prefer Randy and Felder to the current replacements. Although Timothy is not bad.

While there's no doubt they did some great work later on.. My favorite version of the Eagles is Henley, Frey, Leadon, Meisner... when they all were equals..

"Saturday Night" has some of the most amazing non-autotuned harmonized vocals... ever.

I just got the DVD but haven't had a chance to watch it. The fact that these guys don't get along really isn't a surprise to anyone who is a fan of the band. Hell, they were on 60 Minutes a year or two ago talking about all the dissension they've had in the band over the years. I applaud them for putting their differences aside and churning out some legendary music, over the decades.

I always thought it was funny that Henley is from Texas and Frey is from Michigan and Frey sounds more country than Henley.
