Agnetha Faltskog's new album...

Postby G.I.Jim » Fri May 24, 2013 11:35 am

Just bought this album. Anyone else here a big ABBA fan? So far, I like it. It's very mellow and it is SO great to hear that voice all these years later. I have only listened to 5 songs so far, but one thing is grating on me... AUTOTUNE!!! I have no problem with studios fixing a note here or there, but DAMN! Her tone and texture of her vocals are BEAUTIFUL. WHY mess them up so bad with Autotune?

I have to say... ABBA is one of my guilty pleasures. The way they harmonized, along with the music and songwriting (although way too simple for today's music) was truly unique and hauntingly awesome. There are times during these songs ("Bubble" for instance) that she sounds so much like a modern day ABBA. :D

Considering the fact that she is 63 years old... she is absolutely amazing!! Anyone else here a fan?

OMG!!! She has a straight-up disco song on here! Lol!!!! There's a song on here called "Dance Your Pain Away" that's something straight from the ABBA play book.  I hate to admit it, but I like it... :D I am cracking up like hell at this tune! Village People called and said they want their beat back.

If you like that, you should definitely pick up the album. I like the single okay, but I don't like all the auto-tune on that. That's the worst song on the album for pitch correction. I think they were trying to copy Cher's big song with it. It still sounds good, but if you like that, I think you'll like the other songs better! Her natural voice sounds so much better without that. Other than the album being EXTREMELY mellow... the only other beef I have with it is the auto tune. I'm on the last song now, and really like a lot of what I've heard.

Something else that is popping up in my mind is that the songs don't have the really catchy hooks that the ABBA songs had. They have hooks, but it's much more subtle. I'll have to listen to this a few times to digest it. I hope you like it!

Thanks Jim, Will do. Def. a fan, I think its pretty cool she put out a new recording at this stage
of her life. As far as melodies, I noticed the same thing with another favorite of mine, Christine Mcvie.
her solo albums didnt quite have the catchy melodies you associate with her known singles.

No, that's Bobby. My album choices might dictate otherwise sometimes, but I promise I have no interest in jumping the fence! :D ABBA's not my only guilty pleasure band either... I also like some of Manillow's and Air Supply's songs too.

LOL! I think there's a thread where I've always stated that ABBA was my guilty pleasure, in more ways than just

listening to SOS. Hey, G. I. Joe, thanks for posting, didn't know about the album. And Fact Finder, your a bug man! :)

Agnetha Fältskog - A

When the vocal begins on the opening track, "The One Who Loves You Now," you’re instantly transported back to the 1970’s, when the same voice would permeate the radio airwaves with such hits as "Waterloo," "Fernando," and (the still tremendously popular) "Mamma Mia." The hits of the Swedish super-group ABBA still inundate the Broadway stage at the Winter Garden Theater, but we now have brand new material from the blonde, silky-voiced Agnetha Fältskog, with her new release, simply titled "A."

With her first album of original material in 25 years, Fältskog delivers the same youthful sound that brought her and her bandmates to superstardom almost four decades ago. The singer was approached by award-winning producers Jorgen Elofsson (who is responsible for hits by Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson and Celine Dion, among many others) and Peter Nordahl about creating a new set of music, and together they’ve created a genuine, sincere ten-song release that features Fältskog in various styles, and yet she never falters to deliver an engaging performance. From her mid-pop duet with Gary Barlow (the British pop singer who also serves as head judge on the U.K.’s "The X Factor") on "I Should’ve Followed You Home," to "Dance Your Pain Away," which could easily have been an ABBA hit circa 1978 (think "Super Trouper"), Fältskog seamlessly weaves her way through each tune. The album concludes with the yearning ballad, "I Keep Them On The Floor Beside My Bed," the first tune the songstress has co-written in many years.

Many years may have passed since ABBA’s heyday, but Fältskog’s voice (though the singer is now a grandmother!) remains as timeless as ever.

After several listens, I still like most of the songs. I initially said "When You Love Someone" was full of auto tune. I was wrong. I don't know why I had that in my head. There are definitely places throughout the album that it's over-used but not like my first impression had me believe. It's just amazing to hear an old favorite who has been gone for so long from the scene come back and still sound so amazing! :D

Now if Perry would just get off his ass...

I have listened to it and really wanted to like it. Going into it, I was excited thinking "Ok, some music that has one voice from ABBA, might have some tunes that brings back memories. Wrong! Maybe one was close but no cigar. Her voice now is still sweet and strong which was impressive, but then again she only release an album every 10 years or so. I wonder why ABBA since all 4 of them are still alive and able just don't get back together, start hashing out some tunes, record, go on the road again. Is it because they were once married to each other and now don't get along? It's hard to find any good info on these damn swede's. I guess it's time call up Lisbeth Salander.
