If you had to pick ONE all-time favorite concert memory, what would it be? Would love to read some of your favorite concerts and why. I'm sure there are some great meet and greet stories out there too, those can come later or in separate thread. Pick just one concert memory.........

If I had to pick just one concert memory period, (which is VERY hard as I've been to some GREAT shows in the last few years, many being in California) it would have to be that first Mr Big concert on US soil in 15 years at the HOB on Sunset. The atmosphere was like nothing I'd ever felt before. Of course I was super excited all day to finally be seeing one of my favorite bands re-united and play together again. It was sold out, and tons of their LA peers/musicians were there to catch the show as well. The place just went ballistic when they hit the stage. I had seen Eric solo or with other collaborations a few times, but had never seen Mr Big together before. Experiencing the show front and center was the icing on the cake, surrounded by other rabid Mr Big fans from places all over the States and even Japan......was amazing!

Finally getting the chance to watch the amazing Gilbert and Sheehan bass/guitar duals 3 feet in front of my face (lol, not just on concert dvds or Japan boots) for the first time was something to behold! Seriously! And Eric goofin' at us and joking around is always fun. And those pipes! Now imagine your favorite band, now image one of your top 3 favorite most obsecure catalogue tracks of theirs.......coming up on the setlist!. Yes, as soon as it started, I may have lost it just a little when they broke into 'Merciless' off their first album. What a treat! I think the BEST part though was seeing the joy in their faces at playing together again. You just can't fake that. Billy probably put it best once......the reunion wasn't about $, none of us are hurtin', it's for the friendship and fun of playing together again. One of my favorite parts was during Addicted to That Rush when the audience just went nuts! Seriously cheering and didn't stop. One by one they were looking at each other like 'holy shit!' They were definitely feelin' the love from fans and peers alike! Just an amazing show!

Vegas '08 at Planet Hollywood was one of the most magic times in my life where I met some of the greatest friends in my lifetime. That carried on into the show where The Vegas DVD was shot but it was more of the atmosphere of the trip that I enjoyed that came I brought into the show.

Cleveland, round II with most of the Vegas '08 MR's and some newer faces was another epic time with a different vibe but my all favorite time would be either Scranton, PA when me and my girl were on the big-screen or the Youngstown, PA show where I got so smashed with my bro and our crew that I took my shirt off front row and was a maniac that night. Some chicks were standing next to me and we made special concert T-shirts from my bros t-shirt business and the bitch stole it from me. I didn't notice until afterwards but still, as far as getting into the music, Youngstown '09 was it for me.

All I can really say is that the stars aligned for the perfect night, in ALL ways. Perfect concert, and I left in time to nail my g/f back in Bryan. Record driving time of an hour and 10 minutes that trip too. lol

I won't say best show but for a memory, it had to at a Journey concert at the Philadelphia Spectrum in 1982. I was in the seats behind the stage. The last row with my back against the wall. As Perry always faced the drums during solos, we saw quite a bit of him that night.
He started into a little dialog between songs and got to where he asked if anyone in the audience had a joint because Neal needed to get Stoned; they than broke into Stone in Love. Not even a minute into the song I feel a tap on my arm and the girl next to me hands me a huge doobie. I take a hit and she motions for me to pass it along. I did the same with my sister's friend next to me and it went all the way down the row.
Those were good times.

Perry's solo tour in Milwaukee and Minneapolis, show 1 and 2.
His voice was spot on. Was in 2nd row at Mpls show.

Hard to pick one, but I would probably go with the last MR fest, lol. I got to see several bands I never got the chance to before but had wanted to hear live for so long! Growing up an AF brat and my dad getting orders and us all moving to Japan when I was in high school, I didn't get the chance in high school to see so many bands I wanted to back then. We were on Okinawa and the whole time we were there the only 2 concerts that took place were The Monkees and Lee Greenwood. Ugh, lol. So it was awesome to get to hear some of them live finally and all in one weekend. And it'll be that way again this time! Can't wait to hear Harem Scarem most. But also like Travis mentioned, Vegas in '08 was so great too, such a fun time and great funny memories with Dean.

Definitely lots of funny memories of Dean to go around. He came to most of Jeff's shows when I was down in Cali. I remember one, mainly because of his laughing so hard he was almost doubled over. We were at the venue already and Dean comes through the door.....harmless flirt that he was he grabs his boobs and points at me. I assumed the gesture meant he wanted me to grab my boobs, so I jokingly did. LMAO! He still had a belly laugh going as he crossed the bar and gave me a big old Canadian bear hug. Haha didn't realize till after, he was gesturing that HE wanted to grab my boobs. Still makes me laugh when I think about it. I definitely miss seeing him at shows. Haven't seen Lula in ages either, glad her and lil Wy-man are doing well.

I have to agree, have met some great friends off of MR and to this day still go to shows with them when I get the chance. Have had some great fun and stellar memories to look back on. Meeting you all at MRF1 being one of them. Not to mention met some of the most down to earth musicians on the planet. Lucky enough to have met all 3 of my fave singers, Jeff, Eric and Steve. I just had a feeling Jeff and Eric would be stellar people when it came to their fans, from hearing/reading about them and from first hand experience of how geniune and down to earth they are. Perry I thought would be very good to his fans too, but wasn't as sure as he was more reclusive. But was very pleasantly surprised at just how down to earth he was and funny! Who knew he had such a great sense of humor and so free with his hugs. He hugged us hello and after chatting and some pics, he hugged us goodbye and take care. Exceptional and treasured experience, for this fan for sure!

I think the two that probably surprised me the most regarding a preconceived idea that I thought they would be like, is probably, Kip Winger and Paul Gilbert. For some reason I thought Paul would be the least talkative of the Bigs and being such a talented bugger he would, in my mind, probably be the least of the 4 to be fan friendly. Not the case at all! Paul was very talkative and friendly (ok not quite as chatty as Eric, but who is?!).

But Kip Winger was probably the biggest surprise of all. I remember being very much into Winger back in the day, but didn't follow them much after and I don't know why, but I just assumed because of how popular and great looking Kip was/is I just assumed he would have quite an ego on him and such. But he was exactly the opposite of my preconceived idea of what he might be like to meet.
I was at a Mohegan Sun show, mainly to see special guests Eric and Jeff join Scrap Metal. Kip and the Nelsons were also special guests. Was a great show and met some great east coast MR friends; like Maria, Debbie, Maria, Mindy, great fun. If I recall I think Ed and his wife and a couple other Annex peeps were there too. After the show there was a meet and greet. I mainly stayed for the meet and greet to say hi to Jeff and Eric. Not totally skipping Kip, Mark Slaughter or the Nelsons, but probably they weren't as much on my radar. LOL! We were talking with Jeff and Eric in the line and Jeff gestured for me to come around the table to get a pic with him and Eric. I was just walking around it when one of the security guys stopped me and said 'no-one behind the table'. Arggg. I don't think Jeff was impressed either but what can you do and LOL being the polite Canadian that I am, I didn't want to hold the line up so I carried on.......and met Kip and the Nelsons etc. After when we were off to the side gabbing and getting ready to leave, Kip is gesturing at us with his finger for somebody to 'come here'. I turned and looked behind me assuming he was gesturing to somebody behind us? He laughs and points at me and starts to walk over, Maria at this time is freaking out a little going....OMG Kip's coming to get you! He grabs my hand and marches me right behind the table to Jeff and Eric in full view of security guy and grabs my camera to take some pics with them. Because of Kip I have some priceless pics with 2 of my favorite singers and thanks to Maria a couple great pics with Kip too. Kip was a really down to earth nice guy, freely chatting....asking me lots of questions about Canada, etc. I remember standing behind the table chatting, at one point with the thought running through my head.....OMG! I am actually chattin' it up with Kip, Jeff and Eric!! LOL one of those star struck moments!

Nah you're not long winded, those are awesome stories! We fellow music lovers get it! And I never regret being star struck for a moment when first meeting someone with such talent. I've seen where that gets made fun of as fan-girliness or whatever, but who cares! Seriously, people will say "they're just regular people like us", and yeah they may be in every day life or whatever, but when they also have that much talent, then no in that way they are not. Yes I've been a little star struck when these people's talents, their voices, their instruments, are blasted through my car speakers for years, or in my ears at the gym, or in my house, or at work, etc., and you finally meet the person behind the talent. Nothing wrong to ME with being in a little awe for a few minutes

True that! Although when I met SP I was probably the opposite of fangirliness. LOL it wasn't all owww awww, you're wonderful kind of reaction.........haha, I think I was so shocked and not quite registering that this was actually SP walking up to us.....that if anything I was almost more in flight mode. I actually started backing up at first. When meeting a favorite for the first time my reaction is usually more of a quiet, don't know what to say, kind of awe. Although when it comes to live shows I'm definitely not one of those wallflowers that just taps a finger along to the beat........if I love the music, I'm usually singing along, arms in the air rockin' out too. I think I have some kind of weird genetic nerves in my shoulders and hips that are triggered by a great drum beat. That expression 'feel the music' totally applies to me. I LOVE great LIVE rock music!

Yeah I've done that, not wanted to even approach and ask for an autograph or anything, almost too scared! It's funny, but yeah I've never been like the "ohmygoshyouareawesomeIloveyou" kind either, just the same like you mentioned, quiet shock And Lynn and I are just like you with the live music, we love it and love dancing and singing along too! She's my concert spouse

This one is very easy for me. Taking my then 4 year old daughter to see my all time favorite band live in concert in the front row with a meet and greet. Her reactions were hysterical. Evil hand around 55 second mark. Video below.

This is hard because there are different reasons something could be a favorite. I think over all it was the Steve Perry warm up show prior to the solo tour. I got to watch the sound check and it was mind-blowing. And then there are about 20 runners up tied for 2nd.

LOL it wasn't all owww awww, you're wonderful kind of reaction.........haha, I think I was so shocked and not quite registering that this was actually SP walking up to us.....that if anything I was almost more in flight mode. I actually started backing up at first. When meeting a favorite for the first time my reaction is usually more of a quiet, don't know what to say, kind of awe. Journey and Def Leppard at Darien Lake in 2006 with JSS was hands down one of the best concerts that I have ever been too.

Maybe not THE best overall but definitely in the top 3 was The US Festival in '83. I was 18 and loving life! A buddy of mine and I hitch-hiked from the Sacramento area to San Bern. to attend the concert. Hard Rock day was the ultimate show of its kind for that era:

Joe Walsh (Scheduled to perform but didn't show up. Apparently he was famous for that back then.)

Van Halen
500,000 people are a lot of bodies! The closest we got to the stage at any point that day was during Triumph. We were about 50 feet or so from the stage and it sucked! People were getting smashed together and there was a layer of body heat that was overwhelming! At one point we turned around and looked back at the crowd and as far as you could see there were people - literally! It was such a blast being part of that crowd and experiencing it. And the sound was unbelievable! It was the debut of "Diamond Vision" which featured screens on either side of the stage that were fucking enormous and crystal clear. Still have never seen screens that big at an event to this day. It was an event I'll never forget a single minute of.

I saw Triumph quite a few times back in the day, they toured Canada often. Amazing shows! They have always been in my top 3 bands that I would love to see an original lineup re-unite:

Lol the only places I sing along out loud is at like concerts and stuff where nobody can here it. I will be the first to admit I couldn't sing to save my life. Some people sing, some people dance. I may not have been born musically gifted, but I can sure as hell appreciate and enjoy those that are.

Dude... you have no idea...!! In a recent post in another thread I discussed how fortunate I was to have grown up in northern Cal and the abundance of Humboldt County's finest. We took quite a bit with us on the trip mainly to use as barter material because neither of us had any money aside from the little bit we had managed to scrape together for the actual concert tix. The morning of Hard Rock day, day 2 of the festival, the gates opened at 9am and we were in the venue by 9:05! The first band went on stage at 11am. So, between the time we got in and Quiet Riot taking the stage, we walked around basically people watching. We saw these 2 beautiful blond girls sitting on a blanket by themselves so we asked if they got high and wanted to smoke. They said they'd match us which was very cool. These girls were gorgeous and turned out they were from Australia and had come all the way there just for the show! Anyway, we rolled up a fatty Cheech would have been proud of and burned it with them. This stuff was so good, more than 2-3 hits was just a waste, seriously. A little while after we burned our doob it was their turn. One of the girls pulls out this toothpick-sized pinner and me and my buddy were like WTF? They both laughed and told us not to worry. The four of us smoked the tiny excuse for a joint and that was all she wrote!! It was some seriously badass shit! Not laced with anything - just unbelievable pot! We ended up not breaking out any of our own shit until Van Halen took the stage at 11pm that night!!! To this day, I have no idea even what kind of pot it was or its origin but I can say it was def the best shit I've ever smoked!! Ahhhh, good times!

Umm... Deb... you are aware they did that very thing just a few years ago, right? After not seeing each other for umpteen years, they got together at the Canadian R&R H of F when they were inducted and the idea was brought up. For once, Rik was actually open to at least talking about it and that blossomed into rehearsals and ultimately a tour. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see them but they're still one of my top 5 fav bands of all time. Too bad Rik was such a prick! But, that's what often happens when one member of a group is much further advanced and talented as a musician than the rest - and he is, no two ways about it. And, I agree... their performance at US was outstanding. I bought the DVD they released of that performance the day it came out some years ago. And IIRC, there was some sort of snafu with their gear not arriving in time and they actually had to play with borrowed equipment/instruments.

EDIT: Just realized that show was 30 years ago today!! As with any multi-bill show, each band was on stage just a little bit longer than the one before them. Most put on fairly decent performances except Motley Crue and some of Ozzy's. And although VH was the headliner, anyone who was there will tell you the Scorps stole the show hands down! I've seen them and RUSH more times that any other band and can honestly say that performance was one of, if not their best I've ever seen by them!

The 1981 Escape show. I was at the Dallas show, which was the Sunday night after the Friday and Saturday that they filmed the Houston show.

For some reason, I coulda swore they played a limited number of dates after Sweden. That would definitely explain why I didn't see them!! LMAO!! I guess I wished for it to be true so badly that in my demented little mind I believed it was true.
They did in fact release a DVD of their performance in Sweden so there's that at least....

Just to make sure I've got this straight, the show you saw was on the Sunday night which followed a Friday night and a Saturday night both of which were the 2 nights immediately preceding the Sunday night in question. Did I get it right? Sorry buddy... I couldn't help myself.
Seriously though, that's very cool! That tour was arguably the best they ever sounded in concert. Unfortunately I never saw them with Perry so I missed out all around.
