The convicted serial killer known as the Night Stalker has died while awaiting execution, according to officials in California.

Richard Ramirez, 53, died on Friday morning, San Quentin State Prison spokesman Lieutenant Sam Robinson said.

He had been taken from the jail's death row to Marin General Hospital. The Department of Corrections said he died of "natural causes".

Ramirez was on death row for decades and it has been years since anyone has been put to death in the state.

He was convicted of 13 murders that terrorized Southern California in 1984 and 1985, and was sentenced to death.

Most of his victims were shot, but others were strangled or had their throats slashed.

Spray-painted satanic symbols were found at some of the murder scenes and some victims were forced by the killer to "swear to Satan".

Police believe he entered his victims' homes through unlocked windows and doors.

Ramirez was captured and beaten in 1985 by residents of an East Los Angeles neighborhood while attempting a carjacking.

At his first court appearance, he raised a hand with a pentagram drawn on it and shouted, "Hail, Satan."

Ramirez was sentenced to death in 1989 after a four-year trial. He also was convicted of sexual assaults and burglaries.

In 2006, the California Supreme Court upheld Ramirez's convictions and death sentence.

In 2009, DNA evidence linked him to the unsolved 1984 murder of nine-year-old Mei Leung, who was sexually assaulted and killed in her family's San Francisco home.

Ramirez had been living nearby at the time, police said.

Isn't it a shame that this fucker got to die peacefully. This urks me to no end that someone who inflicted so much pain on people got to live out his life peacefully in the end.

At least the residents of an East L.A. neighborhood got the chance to beat him down with their pipes, sticks, feet and fists. They chased him down the street and kicked his ass to the point that the motherfucker actually yelled for the cops to save him when they rolled up!

It seems his uncle got him started on the path. The dude would show the 13 year old Rodriguez videos he brought home from Vietnam of him raping and torturing Vietnamese prostitutes.

Too bad they didn't kill him. So what ever happened to the uncle? Got to wonder whatever happened to just going out and having a good time without hurting people in the process. Even over in all the Asian countries I've been to over the years when I was in the service, I'd throw down bills for their bar fines, not to go out and just have sex with them, but most of the time just so I could enjoy my visit to the area with a hot little honey under my arm,

Too many people worry about the bad guy, like don't stick him in the arm or gas him because that might hurt him. How about first putting him out with the same exact type of gas they use on people who go in for an operation. Once he's out, cut the fucker's head off. No pain. The other killer who comes to mind for me is that creep who kidnapped, raped and murdered Polly Klass. Not only did that creep do these things to her, during the trial he read out loud that before he killed her, she asked that he not rape her like her father did to her. He also flipped off the cameras in the courtroom during the trial. It's a shame that this creep will most likely die a very peaceful death too, much like the Night Stalker did and many other in the past and future.

This makes me sad. Nobody got to kill him.

Nearly a quarter of a century later he dies of natural causes before he can be executed. That's the part I don't get. I guess the sign over his cell flashed "NO RUSH"?

This highlights everything that's wrong the death penalty in this country, this asshole should've gotten a needle a long time ago.

Agreed 100%. When it comes to the death penalty inn Texas, well... they don't fuck around! They likes killin' them baby rapers and cop killers and multiple-murderers. A couple years ago, they were averaging one a month. Outstanding. In most prisons, they're letting people out early due to over crowding. In Texas if death row gets over crowded, they just start makin' room - one needle at a time!

Agreed. I live in Illinois, we love using taxpayer money for Killers and Rapist (Gacy over ten years, among others)
We give our Ex Governor's A nice pension and free healthcare, three squares a day while they serve
time after serving there "official" term.....Why couldn't I have been raised in texas.....

And you have my state (Pennnsylvania) who has only executed 3 people since 1976 with the last one being 14 years ago. But yet there's 200+ people sitting on death row.

I saw something on Yahell or MSN that he cancer. Maybe liver cancer or something. They should have just dipped his balls in muriatic acid.
