A heart attack while on holiday in Italy. Oh, the story lines that could inspire.

Just got a news alert about this and couldn't believe it. Wow! Great actor and by all accounts from fellow actors one Hell of a nice guy. He will be missed. Wonder if Journey's site will post a memoriam.

It sucks but it's not surprising--he obviously continued gaining weight the last several years. One of my favorite actors from my all-time favorite show and one of my favorite fiction authors (Vince Flynn) both dead today... sucks.

Totally sucks when a great author dies. Especially if they are writing a series. I enjoyed the Wheel of Time series from Robert Jordan (real name James Oliver Rigney). Unfortunately he died before completing the last volume. Luckily, as his death wasn't immediate (Cardiac amyloidosis), he was able to collaborate with another writer, Brandon Sanderson who finished the last volume in the series for him.
Another author, George R.R. Martin from A Song of Ice and Fire fame has given a basic outline to the directors of Game of Thrones of how his series should end if he should die before completing it. Not that he is terminally ill, but he is obese and and in his 60s so you never know.

HBO

We're all in shock and feeling immeasurable sadness at the loss of a beloved member of our family. James Gandolfini was a special man, a great talent, but more importantly a gentle and loving person who treated everyone no matter their title or position with equal respect. He touched so many of us over the years with his humor, his warmth and his humility. Our hearts go out to his wife and children during this terrible time. He will be deeply missed by all of us.

If you've ever seen any of the outtakes or behind the scenes shots of him, he always had a smile on his face and seemingly was always laughing at something.
