Is this dude still having voice issues? Am I the only one who finds this painful to listen to?

On another note...why is he even still singing Journey songs? Especially ones that he had absolutely nothing to do with? I genuinely liked some of his material on "Arrival", so I think he needs to sing non-Perry stuff (which I've been saying since I first heard the guy). I'm sure an Augeri fan or two will think this is the greatest performance ever. I cringed through the entire performance.

I think he sounds pretty good here. Even pulls off the hardest part of the song at the end w/ good control of falsetto. Sure, he's a little pitchy, always has been. But what's the problem?

This is good? I guess there is no problem if you think it's good. I think it sounds awful. Dude sounds like he can't hit a note to save his life.

I didn't find it all that enjoyable, but I wouldn't say it was horrible. It was ok. No Steve Perry in the heyday, but who is?

Pitchy. All over the place. A typical Augeri performance if not on his A-game. I've heard some better performances since that date has been posted (April) but in this vid here, though not horrible, it's not good either. Just an "okay" day at the office.

Its not horrible.
Probably the hardest song to sing in the Journey catalog.

That wasn't bad, John. You, me and the rest of the planet are spoiled to how SP sang that song and maybe even how he sang them before his voice gave out. I'm glad he's out there doing what he loves, even if it's not up to the standards that we expect. I give the guy a huge round of applause for being brave enough to continue.

Apparently, I need my ears checked, because I found it painful to listen to. I didn't think it was even in the vicinity of "good".

I understand. I'm just glad to see him out there singing.

Honestly, this really isn't that far removed from Augeri in his prime with the band. Here's an early boot in 1999. Is it really that much better?

It's live. 100%. That's a good thing.

Sounds like his voice is shredded from singing Journey songs, just like Steve's Perry's is. Arnel's will be toast before long.

Apples to Oranges. S.P. wasn't singing songs out of his range, quite the contrary. Think your correct with Arnel,
At this point age is becoming a factor as well.

I agree with John. Not the worst I've heard from Steve but I can't stand listening to his take on Journey songs anymore.

Tough to argue with that point, Drew. That is very clearly a live performance. I just thought it wasn't good, at all.

I don't hear anything bad. It's tuned down a whole step i think , b to A so that alone will make it sound off.

Augeri is a good singer. BUT singing Journey is NOT his deal. Sorry, it's just not. His own stuff is great. But Journey is just too demanding for him. It pretty much always has been. It's tough for him that he's now "Ex-Journey" singer, because now he has to live up to that. He'd be better off doing Tall Stories and of course his solo stuff. I'm not slamming him. I love the dude, but c'mon... Journey's never been an easy gig for him and to go out there night after night and struggle with stuff has got to suck for him. Youtube definitley doesn't make it easier. The Journey albums that he was on- he sounded great on them. But, that's in a studio. Live, it just doesn't cut it. It's too bad, but it's the truth. I wonder if he did Tall Stories and his solo stuff if anybody'd go, or HIS Journey tracks. It seems like many are fans of STEVE AUGERI and not necessary "Steve Augeri from Journey". Might be wrong.
It's hard to watch and I don't envy him. He's such a good dude. Regarding Arnel, he's holding his own. He's changed his pronunciation (not for the better) but his range is still there. There's no rasp. The voice is still there in spades. BUT he needs to have someone dial in his vowels- at least on the Journey stuff. Singing other people's stuff, he doesn't do those things.

It does suck, all these second place ex singers, like Fran Cosmo are stuck with a set that features 90 percent of the original guy's material. We're lucky if there's one song of their own.

It's the only way these guys can get bookings so I don't blame them a bit. Why do you think Dennis DeYoung goes out performing the "Music of Styx" and not his solo material? And he was an original singer, not a replacement.

Besides I'll bet Augeri performed some of the dirty dozen in concert over the years more than Steve Perry did. Don't know that for sure, but it wouldn't surprise me. Either way he sang those songs from 98-06, so it's expected he perform them. I'm sure he'd like to do more Tall Stories or his solo stuff, but that's not what he is getting booked and paid to do.

I would bet money most people at MRIII who see SA perform will very much enjoy his set.

I agree he certainly has the right to perform them. but its sad to watch and listen too.
Its a great example of why S.P. stopped singing them along time ago. If S.A. needs the
money to support his family Then I dont blame him, he has earned that.

SP didn't stop quite soon enough. I have some boots from '86 that are pretty painful to listen to.

Good point Rick, I bet he would agree he should have stopped sooner than he did.

I actually think SP sounded better on the FTLOSM tour than he was eight years earlier for the ROR tour.

AR's right. This is how Steve stay's playing. He's got a following...and that following wants to hear Journey. Plain and simple.
There's always been a pitch warble to Augeri's voice. It was evident on Tall Stories as much as it is evident on Arrival.

It's clear there's always been a contingent of people that hate Augeri. Some just don't like his voice. Not your cup of tea. Move on. Some just fucking hated him so much that they wanted to ruin him. Those people in the later group will serve a very long time in hell, because they just have no fucking clue how gracious and nice a guy SA is IRL.

Personally, I've been tired of *anyone* singing Journey except SMFP. Seriously. Not a loon here...but the fucking replacement singers have just grated on every one of my organs, save for my liver. I don't care how fucking shot SMP's voice is....if you cant have him singing in Journey, hang it the fuck up and stop pissing on the legacy anymore. Friga and Fro have done enough motherfucking damage. Word to Fro - send the fucking flop-toped canine cruncher home to the Philippines, don't retrieve JSS's cell number off the back of the pizza box, don't go hunting on youtube for another fucking weak-ass facsimile......just call SMFP. If he can't fucking do it, either because he thinks you're a short, greasy, jive ass motherfucker or because he can't sing anymore.....then go find another fucking band and write some new music.

There....I feel better. Like taking a 12 pound shit thanksgiving evening.....

regardless, thanks for the heads up. Edits made!

Lmao. Epic post. As for the "pitch warble", I'd say its def evident on anything Augeri attempts to do live. Less so on albums, like Tall Stories or anything Journey. Regardless, this clip is not bad. He's still a tenor and he's hitting the money notes, so what exactly is the problem? People gonna hate.

Wow. Did Arnel have sex with your grandparents' corpses or something? Or do you have photographic proof of him enjoying a broasted poodle-on-a-stick?
