CHEAP TRICK--BUN E. CARLOS

Saw Cheap Trick the other night in Midland, Texas. Great show, unusual setlist, but had a great time. I noticed that Bun E. was not with them, but rather, Rick Nielson's son, Dax was on the skins. I saw today that Bun E. is suing the band. What a shame, I hate to see it come to this, because I think Bun E. was/is a beloved member of the band--wonder what went on behind the scenes in the last few years?

I guess the agreement was that they would pay him as a full member of the band even though he wasn't touring and they didn't pay him and are recording with a new drummer.

Bun hasn't drummed with them since 2010, at least. I thought he couldn't due to health issues. Now it seems it's about money, which sucks. I never thought I'd read this kind of story associated with Cheap Trick. Bummer.

looking at Cheap Tricks wiki page, Steve Walsh was a touring member in 1985? voc/keys.

Cheap Trick's sets have increased from 75 minutes back when Bun E last toured to 2 hours now.

This is one change that has improved the live show I have to admit.

I've heard the problem is between Bun E and Zander.

The issue is not about money. It is about creativity. Bun E Carlos did not want to do the types of show the band wanted to do. A 2nd run in Vegas of Sgt Pepper and the Dream Police residency. Bun E wanted to tour as they had always done and make new music. The band had reached an impasse and Bun E could stop them from moving forward. The three remaining members offered to pay him as a full member going forward and Bun E would be included in new recordings and could return at any point. That is why this was so quiet for 3 years. Then the band stopped paying him and then started recording without him. Now he is going after them for breaking the contract.

Cheap Tricks set times are generally limited due to being on multi act bills and playing in casinos where 80 minutes is the preferred show length.

Bun E never played a 2 hour show even when Trick was headlining with no restrictions. His back wouldn't permit it. They routinely play longer sets now when headlining clubs on their own.

I'd prefer to see him in the band, but it's just a fact that the shows have been longer with Daxx.

It's definitely about money.

Sad to hear....

My husband looks like Bun E. We have even had people run up to us at Cheap Trick shows and ask for Dan's autograph...Dan tells them he is not the drummer. LOL That happened at the Heart/Cheap Trick, Journey show back in 2008. He used to go to Cheap Trick shows a lot in California in the past and had been mistaken for the drummer.

Is that Kansas's Steve,

Same one. He did that between the end of Streets and Kansas reforming.
