Spent the weekend watching a bunch of live performance DVD's including Phil Collins' "Finally, The First Farewell Tour" recorded live in Paris in 2004. Personally, I'd rather watch/listen to a Genesis concert. Less "bubble gum" and pop stuff. However, Phil's performance of his iconic classic "In the Air Tonight" is a definite standout on this DVD. The audio is outstanding and the lighting effects combined with Phil's eerie demeanor throughout the song make it perhaps the best live performance of the song he's ever turned in.

The very beginning of the DVD features Phil and his drummer, Chester Thompson tossing various drum riffs back and forth culminating in a synchronized drum solo that serves to remind just how polished a drummer Phil truly is. At nearly 60, he's still got his chops.

Phil has lost..NOTHING! I know his passion was the drums and that's why he retired, but I"ve got to say he underestimates his vocals. He's among my top five vocalists of all time. He should keep on singing...

Disagree. I liked his last cd (Motown covers), but he sounds like he's losing it. Still great tho.

I just bought the Live and Loose in Paris DVD last week. Really enjoying it. Looks like I'll have to buy this DVD as well!

He's losing a lot of depth in his voice in recent years. The first place you could tell it was the Farewell dvd. He's doing the Rod Stewart/Steve Augeri thing of singing softly to cover it up.

speaking of dvds, if you can ever find the Dallas "No Ticket Required" dvd, there's some great stuff on that one including a really rocking version of Only You Know and I Know. Hard to find, but it does exist, although I don't think it ever got an official US release on dvd. HBO aired it at the time, and my dvd copy appears to be Portuguese--looks like Spanish, but there are a couple of non-Spanish things here and there on the cover.
