I knew some DJs in the 80s and early 90s and there was plenty of gawdawful rap (almost seems redundant

) 25+ years ago. Shitball lyrics "git yo face slapped with nine inches o' limp dick" and all that. When the Geto Boys came out, their lyrics dripped with misogyny and violence. You couldn't tell anyone that without somebody taking it personally and spitting "S'called keepin' it real!!"
The Beastie Boys are the only "rap" act I'd ever give my time, and that usually means somebody else might be playing them and the music's within earshot. They did some interesting and funny stuff. One of the funniest rap albums has to be the one by Digital Underground that came out in the late '80s. Again, it was due to the sex-centric lyrics. Rap for the most part is pretty flippin' annoying and Kanye is a piece of shit.
