Rob Thomas - Live Acoustic in Durham

ok for the rare musical-related post....

On May 1, Rob Thomas hit central North Carolina on his solo tour. This was a bit different to the usual Rob Thomas show. Featuring just a couple of guitars, a piano and just two people to help him, this certainly wasn't the typical Rob Thomas/Matchbox 20 show, and most everything was way stripped back. Not surprisingly, there was a fair bit of Matchbox 20 songs played, as well as the solo material and a cover or two. Total time onstage was about 1:45, and a fair amount of chat introducing the songs and such.

As typical, live soundboard recordings were available for purchase, but at $40 (plus the cost of a ticket), these things are beginning to get rather pricey just to have a recording of the show you attended!

Interesting point is that he mentioned he's working on a new solo album, expected to be out early next year. He debuted a new song called "Heaven Help Me", which is likely to be a mid-tempo, probably close in style to Mockingbird from the last solo cd.

setlist...
1. This Is How a Heart Breaks
2. Fallin' to Pieces
3. Sunday Morning, New York Blue
4. Her Diamonds
5. Getting Late
6. Disease
7. Ever the Same
8. Streetcorner Symphony
9. You Won't Be Mine
10. Lonely No More
11. 3am
12. Someday
13. Heaven Help Me (new song. first live performance)
14. Bent
15. No One is to Blame (Howard Jones cover)
16. Unwell
17. Little Wonders
18. Mockingbird
19. Smooth
20. Bright Lights

Fun show, and the Durham Performing Arts Center is one of the nicer theatres around with great acoustics. Very reserved crowd though. Not the big sing-along show I was expecting. They seemed to be content to sit and politely clap at the end of the songs.
