Classic Rock magazine have published their own Top 50 greatest live albums ever. Pick your favourite out of their Top 10. AC/DC 'If you want blood' got my vote. In positional order......

I went with Thin Lizzy as my top pick with Cheap Trick a close second.

I wouldn't vote for any of those as best ever. My best ever would be
Pretty Maids - Screamin' Live, followed closely by Dokken - Beast From The East. :D

That was my thought. My vote goes for Pretty Maids also, along with Queensryche - Operation: Livecrime, Rush - Rush in Rio, Magnum - The Spirit.

KISS ALIVE! It set the standard. I don't care how "airbrushed" it was. It just cranks from beginning to end. Other albums I would give a nod to are:

Cheap Trick - Budokan (complete concert)
Journey - Captured
Toto- 25th anniversary
The Who - Live At Leeds
Thin Lizzy - Both Life/Live and Armed & Dangerous
Dream Theater- Live Scenes From New York
Foghat - Live
Queen - Live At Wembley

I'll stop here but I know I'm leaving out a few I would like to list.

I really must take a listen to this Pretty Maids album. I've got all the other albums (I think) but I never got around to listen/buy this one. This is the umpteenth time I hear good things about this album.

My choice would be: Rainbow - On Stage and Whitesnake - Live In The Heart Of The City.

No live album will ever top Genesis "Live: The Way We Walk."

Although the DVD is much more impressive than just the cd version alone. The stage looks like it could've cost millions.

I really only like live albums if they do something really different (DVD's are cool though)

So i like

Steve Vai-Alive in an Ultra World (2cd's of new stuff)
Star One-Live on Earh (Because they played lots of Ayreon with the Star One singers-Russell Allen and Damien Wilson are awesome)

but my fave is

Hellborg/Lane/Sipe - Temperal Analogues of Paradise
3 guys on stage with no idea what is about to be played and they created 2 unbelievable musical movements......this shit needs to be celebrated not recreations of studio music that has to be overdubbed to make it sound like a studio recording..........

If i had to pick one of the list above it would be the Rush album.

Tali, the Pretty Maids Screamin Live album is different. They speak Danish, lol. Seriously though, this live version of No Messiah is just unbelievably good. Way better than the studio version. :D

Serendipity, do go and buy the album. It's great. Best live album ever. I promise. So does Sarge.

Santa must have read the MR.com Forums! :D I'm as of now the proud owner of Pretty Maids - Screamin' Live, and I agree it's an awesome album.
A lot of songs sound better than the studioversion. The Danish announcements are a bit weird. It sounds like German only I can't understand it. :(

As there is no option for Deep Purple's Made In Japan, I cannot vote :(

PS. Where can I find one of those cool avatars?

Out of that list, I'll have to go with Kiss: Alive!
Truly a life changing experience for many people.

Trooper, look no further than this very site for some very cool avatars....

Kiss Alive isn't even LIVE!!!!!

I find it funny that Kiss is winning, and hardly any of the recordings on the disc are really live.

Hands down, LIVE AT LEES is the greatest live recording I've ever heard. Captured the pure energy and cohesiveness of The Who as a live act. Wonderful dynamics.

Cheap Trick and Rush could also tie for 1st in my book. Nobody's better live than RUsh.

Live Bootleg-Aerosmith....showcasing Aerosmith at their finest during their bluesiest & ballsiest at the height of their 70's reign.

If you had included, "Frampton Comes Alive", it would have been my pick.
There have been many that were better, before and after, but I love this one.

of those listed

Hmm. My ultimate choice would be QUEENSRYCHE'S "OPERATION:LIVECRIME" but alas, it's not on this list.

I guess I would choose KISS ALIVE then.

I wouldn't have ranked the first two Genesis live albums ahead of "Three Sides Live" and "The Way We Walk." What was Classic Rock mag thinking?

I was leaning towards Thin Lizzy's Live and Dangerous but then I remembered Journey's wonderful Captured - surely the greatest ever live album, I can't believe no-one's mentioned it! And a highly commended to Dokken for Beast From The East as well.
