Reunion without Marcello: Disappointing

Postby Fernando Ramirez » Sun Feb 15, 2004 3:56 am

Does anybody else feel the same? For me, Marcello's melodic, clean and fast fretwork was a big reason I liked the band. My fav album by them is OUT OF THIS WORLD.

I'm not ragging on Norum (who must have had a change of heart by participating in this reunion)... but by not having Marcello at least on the recordings... it's a big disappointment for me.

Kee say's he's going to join them on tour, so he's still in the picture. Indeed Kee's contribution to Out of this world and Prisoners in Paradise was solid and I would've like to see both he and John Norum participate on the new album.

My biggest concern, however, is whether or not the band will come to the USA. I have a bad feeling about it. A major newspaper here in Detroit (The Detroit Free Press) had an interview with Joey around April 2003 (discussing "the final countdown"). The article gave a brief history of Europe and apparently Joey told the reporter that he and some of the band members were discussing a "European reunion". Now, the press release from Europe's management later in the year indicated a "world tour" was coming, but that still doesn't guarantee a trip to the USA.

I wasn't aware he was touring with them. If that's true, that's great news. But still, the album/CD is forever, and not having him on there is disappointing. I wouldn't mind if both Norum and Kee were on there.

If he was on the CD, then at least if we didn't get to see the tour it would be cool having some new music from him.

I'm hoping they'll put out a DVD or something... that way we can check out the show with Kee! I used to have the show that MTV played a couple of times... the one from the Final Countdown tour... with Kee on guitars... it was great.

My fear is the same as each of yours. Unless the package up with another big band, there is little chance they would come to the US. They unfortunately, due to their management at the time, did not spend much time here during the OOTW tour, resulting in their audience here forgetting about them sooner then some bands. Even if they come as part of a package of rock bands, the show will be stripped down, because they would obviously not be the headliners, unless they did a co-headliner thing with someone like Bon Jovi or Def Leppard, who they have done shows with before. Then maybe they would at least get and hour and 20 minutes to 90 minutes worth of playing time. Other then that, we can always hope they do a club tour.

I know what you're saying. I was already assuming I wouldn't get to see them play here in TX... and I was already wondering when I would be able to get the concert DVD.

I don't think they were ever big here in the USA. I know FINAL COUNTDOWN (the album) was moderately successful here... but I wasn't a fan when that album hit.... so I didn't pay them much attention. Ibecame a fan when OOTW came out.. and by then, I never really saw them on MTV (except for that concert I taped) or even heard them on the radio.

I don't think they could pull off a successful tour here in the US. Bands like Journey, Styx, and others can because they have lots of successful albums under their belts. Here in the US, Europe was really only popular with TFC, and I don't think OOTW sold all that much (despite the fact that I love it). And I know the album after that disappeared, so you couldn't count that one.
