Wish David Lee Roth & Van Halen reunited

So Sammy Hager is joining Van Halen again. That's good news for some.
But if David Lee Roth and Van Halen reunited, that would be outstanding world news with demand exceeding supply for tour tickets.
Van Halen with Sammy Hager will never be as good as classic Van Halen. A few, overweight, unathletic, pasty-looking nerds might prefer Sammy Hager over David Lee Roth

100% correct Kenny. Its best that the DLR chapter of Van Halen stays closed...You'll always have those classic 6 albums.

True, but I would still love to see it.
I like the Hagar Van Halen just as much, I just see them as two different bands.

To begin with, what source did you hear that Hagar was back in Van Halen? I checked the official site for the band, and there is no mention of this whatsoever.
Secondly, no one can foresee what Van Halen would do with Roth back in the fray. Many variables including the current rock-music climate would come into play. The mere presence of Roth back in Van Halen would alone probably not produce the scenario you wish for. Other factors would affect their success (i.e. whether or not any "new" material succeeds both in airplay as well as sales, the public's perception of Roth, and the overall excitement level produced by such a reunion).
Finally, your statement that the second incarnation of VH will never be as good as the first is purely your opinion, and not a fact. But given your assumed intelligence, I'm sure you're well aware of this.

Hardly surprising, considering the official site has not had an update for nearly two years.....

Actually.......it was the other way around, dude.

David Lee Roth and his band were outstanding in 2002 in Massachusetts, while Sammy Hager "needed" Boston celebrities such as Tom Brady and the Mighty, Mighty Bostones on the stage.
The Van Halen songs with David Lee Roth are far superior than the average Van Halen with Sammy Hager.
Van Halen was sooooo much better with David Lee Roth, and the majority of the public would prefer the original Van Halen over the other two versions of Van Halen.

. Well I've certainly heard mixed reports on this issue - it seems clear that on the Sam and Dave tour, some nights Sammy sucked, other nights Dave sucked.
One thing for sure though - Sammy didn't need to rely almost exclusively on his VH back catalogue !
The Van Halen songs with David Lee Roth are far superior than the average Van Halen with Sammy Hager.
Maybe, maybe not - everyone will have a different opinion about this.....I love both eras, so I wouldn't agree.

More than fair enough to share your opinion. And you may be right! If the original VH was better for you, at least you will always have those six albums - I can't see any more than a further two if Sammy does indeed rejoin.......

I think if you took a poll of current music celebrities and those in the business, they would most like to see a Roth VH reunion. I would love to see Dave do it. However, it would be over quick. One huge tour and that would be it. Sammy with VH will sell well, but put Dave in there and watch EVERYONE come out just to see the old boys do it one more time. Regardless of quality or possibilities for the future, Dave and VH will be in stadiums. Thats right, STADIUMS. Current music climate be damned.....I dont know too many people in my age bracket (30-40) who wouldnt tailgate and put on our old tight concert t-shirts just to see the masters work the magic again. Thats what Roth brings to the table...pure magic. If you are looking for great vocals and album matching tunes, stay home. A Roth VH show will be all about the party atmosphere and having a great time.
Sam will do a great job however when/if VH gets rolling again. I will be there watching when the tour comes by. I think I could miss a Sam VH show without being too disappointed, but I would never EVER miss a show with Dave. A the dave/vh window is closing faster and faster. A shame. Kiss was able to do it. They became a joke after taking it to far, but it can work for VH.
Roth comes back, tour, dvd, live cd, box set, see ya later.

Who gives a shit what 'current music celebrities' and 'those in the business' think?
Basically, VH with Roth isn't gonna happen. Ever.
VH with Sammy will probably happen. Maybe.
I'll take whatever I can get at this stage.......

Come on !
I love the early VH stuff, especially the 1st album and 1984 but there is absolutely no question that Sammy is by far the better singer.
You just have to listen to their recent solo albums to see that DLR just cannot measure up. Sure, back in those days he was the best front man around but he is now a sad looking characature of himself with a wig.
They were like two completely different bands with the two singers and I loved them both but VH with Sammy can still be relevant. VH with DLR could be embarassing.

If Van Halen would play more material from their first six albums with DLR, then I'd be happy.

I LOVE VH WITH DAVE,but its obvious,he's voice isnt in great shape, and he's getting older. The vh brothers must have given him about 20 ideas for a song, and he couldnt even cut that. That was for thr greatest hits, sammy on the other hand is older than dave, but he's got the voice and can definitely write a good pop tune.
If vh were to release something heavy, the tour would be over before it began.Sammy and Van halen...in 2004 mark my words
DLR for Van Halen..........I dont think so

I went to see DLR the other night here in the UK and had a great time. All his solo and VH classics were played and the crowd loved it. But I have to say, he is past it. His voice struggles and as for hs actions on stage, well, he sort of reminds me of Ozzy Osbourne, all a bit senial. If and when VH get their act back together I honestly believe that if they chose DLR it would have been a disaster. Sammy Hagar has life left n his voice and needs VH as he's pants on his own. Long live VH / SH.

Sammy Hagar is way older than David Lee Roth, and I don't pay the $$$ to see Hagar promoting his stupid liquor company.
David Lee Roth is the better singer & showman. With Hagar, Van Halen seldomly plays any pre-1984 classics.

I respectfully disagree. I think Hagar with Van Halen will be HUGE!!! Bring back the Red Rocker. I will pay good money to see this!! Cant wait for an official announcement!!

Sammy is still in great shape though.....and his voice is in MUCH better shape.
As for the pre-1984 classics, I don't have a problem with that. They play some material from the Roth years, annd if it's a choice between not hearing anything pre- 1984 and not having any Van Halen at all, I choose Van Halen with Sammy!
VH with Cherone played a few pre-1984 tracks live, but basically the album they recorded sucked donkey balls, so.......

Journey Troll my friend, I strongly disagree with you. Sammy Hagar is Mr. Teflon when it comes to his voice. He's one of the most consistent singers I've ever heard. I like DLR but it's obvious to everyone (except you) that he's pretty much washed up. If it wasn't for Sammy Hagar, VH would've crashed and burned after 1985. He kept the train rolling for another 10 strong years....even in the height of grunge music!!!

I'm gonna disagree with you on that one. DLR maybe not the same man as he was in the early 80's, but he's not totally washed up, he can still put on a great show.
Bring on Van Hagar and then you never know, a final bow out tour with both singers. (I know wishfull thinking, but just maybe...........).

Hi Melanie,
I saw DLR in 2002 and he was great. So wasn't his new band. This occurred during the Sam & Dave tour. I just don't like Sammy Hagar, and I know that Van Halen doesn't play a lot of DLR songs when Hagar is signing.
I saw your picture on another Journey web site, and you are looking fine.

Nothing van halen have done since dave left comes close to the greatness of this album.. in fact nothing comes close to just one song .... that's right "Yankee Rose".
To say i was dissapointed dave was not back in is a big udnerstatement.. .dave is rock n roll.. they don't make front men like him anymore

I agree with one, Sammy needs to sing some new songs from the old stuff!! Panama,Jump,Aint talkin Bout Love are getting old. That was one good thing about Gary he wasnt scared or too damn good to sing anything from the past. Sammy seems to be a little blowedup about singin some Dave stuff. I wonder what he would say about a couple from V.H.3?
