Edward is an ass! He can't even treat his own band members with respect. What else can we expect from the damn ego freak?

All the song smaples on their site that i've heard were awesome. It's really a shame that Eddie won't help a new band get on their feet.

I think the whole thing was blown way out of porportion. Everyone handled this news the wrong way. The Soul Sirkus boys should've just said we've got two potential dates with a major act for the summer, and left it at that. By saying who/when the shows were going to be with before they got all the ok's it makes Eddie look like the bad guy.

In conclusion I think Ed should've let the boys open for them because it is only 2 shows. However, I don't think he should be the one to take the blame for the whole situation because the Soul boys should've known better than to announce something that isn't signed sealed and delivered

From the Soul Sirkus website
We are sorry to announce the 2 Soul SirkUS dates with Van Halen will NOT happen. The boys apologize to those who purchased tickets especially to see their debut outing. There was concern the dates would not be fully committed as there the was a 'factor' to get through. We are not obliged to reveal the meaning behind this decision, just days after the announcement of the dates, but you are likely to find the reasons throughout the many internet outlets discussing this situation. Soul SirkUS will emerge with future dates once their personal schedules permit

They certainly aren't taking any of the blame themselves, and speaking of EVH as "a factor" is not in the best taste. Also, referring people to internet discussions to find the reason behind this decision instead of giving their own statement is an odd thing to do.

I agree with Jestor that they should have refrained from making announcements before they had a confirmation. By these premature announcements Eddie is basically forced by Soul Sirkus to let them in on the tour, if he doesn't want to look like the bad guy. And even though his response might be a little over the top, it's understandible in that respect.

Harsh, but true.

Personal view: I think Van Halen is afraid of the competition. Many bands fuck their support acts with sound and light. This is just another step.

They as in Soul Sirkus.....they fucked up by announcing they would be the support before it was a done deal. Who did you think I was referring to?
Mind you, Sam and Mike are maybe a little miffed.....seeing as how they were brief bandmates when the project was known as Planet US.

As far as 95% of VH fans are concerned, Ed can do no wrong - but he should still be careful.

I thought it would be Soul Sirkus, but I wasn't sure.
I didn't know that it wasn't in contract, so in hindsight announcing was a dumb move. I wouldn't expect that from such experienced musicians!

Journey used to fuck Van Halen over on tour when VH started. The Journey guys were being blown off stage by VH so they started sabotaging Ed's gear mid song, unplugging his amp, getting the sound guy to mix them badly....so i guess Ed thinks Neal Schon is a wank stain...and why wouldn't he?

I don't want to offend anyone but I have seen Eddie twice on this tour and Neal Schon 3 times over the past two years and Neal would wipe the stage with him. Neal keeps progressing. He gets better and better every I time I see him. Listen to his old stuff with Journey or Santana and listen to him now. You would think it was two different guitar players. Eddie is doing the same shit I saw him do on the 5150 tour. This tour has been a major disappointment. After hearing Eddie's rant on stage I realized he's friggin' headcase. Also the members of Journey never fucked with VH. It was their road crew who fucked VH.

Back in the late 70's when this happened Eddie wiped the floor with Schon. It happened apparantly quite a few times during the tour. If my roadies were fucking with a band who we were playing with i'd tell them to stop if i didn't want them to do it....but what do we know?
Maybe Neal tried to crack on to Eddies Mrs in 85 at some resteraunt?
Maybe Eddie gave Neal $100 bucks to get him some coke once and Neal came back with a $50 bag.
Maybe Ed doesn't like JSS's hair

I personally don't give that much of a fuck unless it happens to me :D

Schon could be Eddie's roadie....maybe.
There's no comparison when it comes to skill, innovation, speed, feel or anything else on the guitar - Eddie ownz him BIG time.

As great a guitar player as Schon is, I have to agree with Kenny. I saw Van Halen a couple of years back and I have NEVER seen anyone play better. And that includes, Clapton, Santana and Lifeson. (I mention those three in particular because they are the only ones I have seen live.)

I have to make the point too, that everyone is of course entitled to their opinion.....but I think the opinion that states Schon would wipe the stage with EVH is, respectfully, the minority one.

I've saw Journey and Van Halen in the past year...

I give Neal the edge in the guitar department. When I saw Eddie he was playing sloppy and his solo sucked

Again from the Soul Sirkus website...

Tuesday, July 20th, 2004
VH Debauchery - JSS has sent this message: 'There was never any intention 4 this whole VH vs. SS 2 occur, there are many rumors running about regarding the situation about the 2 shows we were 'hoping' 2 do with them on this current tour, but we respect the decision & have no ill will about it. It was only 2 shows & the ugliness ensued from this is unnecessary. Continued success 2 Ed, Sam, Mike & Alex'.

Tuesday, July 20th, 2004
The new songs are completed now & we are told there will be samples coming here soon. Word is the 'buzz' on SS is strong within the industry now so the album should surface before year's end at this rate.

Not so sure

Postby Rockindeano » Thu Jul 22, 2004 2:58 am

Well, I have played guitar for sometime now, and used to LOVE EVH. Lately I have seen Journey and VH, and to be completely honest with you, and not to offend anyone here, Neal is a better player in all aspects, and Hell, he even sings lead now on a song or two on tour.

I have always wondered why there was a "fued" between the two bands and I always thought it was because VH opened for Journey in 78. Needless to say, both bands became huge and both should go to the Hall of Fame as well. I do think Neal wishes he was playing the big big arenas like they did in the 80's with Perry, but that doesn't diminish their talent. They still play 10-13,000 seats nightly. Oh well, to summarize it up, why did Eddie cancel Neal if he is so certain he could "blow Neal away?" I think possibly Eddie knows differently, and Sammy DOES know of Neals' prowess. Battle of the guitarists???

I knew it would be. And I really hated typing it out. But that's my concensus. Eddie was a major disappointment this tour, and on the VH III tour. He hasn't progressed since 5150 or maybe even earlier. Neal has progressed as a player and he never fails to amaze. I knew my statement would be hard to swallow on this board. I believe Soul Sirkus was cancelled by Eddie because he was afraid of being upstaged. There is no other logical explanation. Alex already gave it the go. So what's the problem?

IMO, there is more to this than we know, and more than is being said, but I would have cancelled them just for JSS constantly using numbers instead of words...2=to. :D

Before this thread I have never in my life heard the two compared.......as in Schon has never been considered anything like Ed's equal, as far as I knew.
Am I wrong?

There is a vast warehouse of players better than Ed now. Like I have said before its not that he sucks so bad is that he has not progressed at all. His two handed stuff is clean and fast, but the pick stuff is sloppy, and the faster he tries to play the sloppier it gets. He needs to woodshed it. As far as Neil is concerned, Ive heard him alot and he always has been repetitive, slow single notes then a flurry of fast slop. I know I have been harsh lately but damn Im tired of the same old crap.

I've personally always found Neal to be a little boring in the lead department...he can play well but is mainly diatonic stuff that 100's of AOR guys can and do just as well.
Ed has not progressed that much in development but i hear a lot more personality in his solos and has the phat tone.
There are hundreds of guitarists that are technically better than Ed but few of them have the IT factor....Neal doesn't thats for sure....based on what i've heard of Journey,Hardline,Bad English and HSAS.

The only time i have heard Ed out of his element is when he got up and jammed with Holdsworth....but anyone would look bad jamming with Al playing one of Al's compositions.

Eddie Vs. Schon

Postby Eric » Fri Jul 23, 2004 5:28 am

I feel Schon is much more versatile and has clearly done much more in his career than Eddie. I'd take Eddie as a better metal-type of guitarist, but Schon has it all over him in most other departments. Schon's sound is much more soulful.
