Best of Both Worlds Review

Postby jestor92 » Fri Jul 23, 2004 9:52 am

Well 1st off, I LOVE the new songs.

It's About Time totally ROCKS! The lyrics are a lil simplistic but who cares the music is really good and did I mention it rocks?

Up For Breakfast, this song reminds me of When It's Love with the synthesizing, but again with weaker lyrics. Some nice soloing by Eddie though and the chorus is good and adicting.

Learning To See- I love this song. I heard the song off this website but in much worse quality. The song in my opinion is the best of the 3. It's a heavy metalish ballad. But it rips and the ending chorus is good. I love this song as well.

Now onto the rest of the cd...well it's pretty much cut and dry. I don't know why they didn't just make a Best of Volume 2. But anyway what is up with "Finish What ya Started", it cuts off in the middle of the lyric. I don't see the reason for having "Ain't Talking Bout Love", "Jump", and "Panama" twice on the cd. The time used with those 3 songs could've been used to put 3 other songs on there like "Don't Tell Me (What Love Can Do)", "DOA", "Mean Street", "Atomic Punk", "AFU", etc. I can see why "Pretty Woman" is on there considering it's still played across the country, but why no Intruder before it? Same with "Dance the Night Away", considering they were the best off Diver Down I can see why they're both on the cd.

Overall I like the compilation, just wish there were more songs, and a song by the Cherone era.

I grade it an 85/100.

I think Up For Breakfast sounds more like Why Can't This Be Love than When It's Love. I agree they should have put some Cherone songs on there, Without You, One I Want and Dirty Water Dog are my favorites from VH 3.

Why can't they put together a proper compilation already. There is still stuff missing and stuff that shouldn't be on there.

The BOBW greatest hits compilation is more of an introduction to Van Halen to younger fans who don't know their history as well as to promote this legendary rock band during their reunion tour which could be their farewell tour!

That's spot on, in my view.

Make that 2 in agreement!
This collection is directed at gaining new fans, and at the same time it and its tour are money generating machines. No probs though, cause I'm hoping it's not their last, and they do in fact return to the studio for a new album in the future. Love the single, UFB is okay but surprisingly LTS has become a total bore. The verse just sounds so Hagar solo it annoys me (as I've stated b4, I like Hagar solo but not on a VH album!). The remainder of the album is just there!

Here's hoping.

I think at least two or three songs from Van Halen III should of been on Best Of Both Worlds instead of the three live songs. If there wanted to add a few live songs, maybe a couple from David's era then a couple from Sammy's era.

I agree. "One I Want" is my fave song from VHIII - that definitely should've been on a 'Best Of'!

The fact that there are no songs from VH III on the album almost amounts to the band admitting the album was a crock of shit......though there are some songs I like - 'Without you', 'One I want', 'Year to the day' are three that spring to mind.

Ain't it funny how those crock of shit albums always have the odd exception to the rule. How many shit albums I have in my collection simply cause there's a couple of songs I enjoy...
Or because the albums has a certain tone or vibe that is kinda cool but artistically the album sucks!?

SFA.

Problem is I have found over the years that if I offload them it's only a couple of years or so and I'm searching seconds bins etc to get them again. Particularly if the band releases a newie which is good, you know, ya want the collection again?

I've copied a few tracks to comp or downloaded them b4 ditching the album but hell, I can't help but prefer the originals so I gotta resist giving them up I spose!?
