I was listening to some bootlegs on a David Lee Roth/Van Halen site for free if you're a member with one being the VH concert that I attended at the old Charlotte Coliseum in NC on 2/1/84 during my youth which I will never forget. This bootleg recording of this classic VH concert in NC that I was at was authentic bringing back memories with Dave getting on this asshole for throwing fireworks onstage in the middle of On Fire which landed at Alex's drums but it's too bad there isn't a concert video of this Van Halen show.

That's another thing I don't get: why there is no live CD and DVD of the DLR era (you figured there'd be one from the 1984 tour for posterity's sake), and why there's no CD version of Live Without A Net with more songs (like "Dreams") from the show.

Its because he cant sing live.

Dave was not much of a "singer" back in the day. His approach was more from a performance standpoint. He tended to miss words, addlib, and even make stuff up. I absolutely loved it no matter what. Any VH fan has gotta know that buying a Roth live cd would be kinda lame. Dave's strength is in his stage performance, not in his vocal performance. A dvd however would be cool.
I have seen Dave live with VH in 82 and 84. It was magic. I have a boot from Sao Paolo in 1983 and it is amazing to watch. The quality sucks, but the performance is classic VH. Just the background vocals from Ed & Mike is worth listening.
I would even venture to guess that if VH put out a cleaned up version of either the US festival or the Sao Paolo 1983 show on dvd, it would sell like crazy. It would be one of things many music fans would "have to have". Regardless of how Dave "sings", the old VH was more about vibe & balls, than perfect pitch. Face it, the entirte band was drunk for nearly every show back then. The shows were more geared toward kicking your a$$, than being sing alongs.
Many of us who have seen Roth with VH can attest to the pure POWER of VH back then. It was truly second to none.

I'll bet that we will never see a VH Roth era dvd. Ed would be hit with a torrent of DLR pressure if that was released. Plus, Sammy would have to put up with undue stupidity too. I am a dlr fan who happens to like Sammy's contribution to the band. I even liked Sam solo better. He seemed way more creative then. Then again, I am willing to give any new VH a chance.

Mick Jagger isn't that great of a singer either but he has lots of attitude as well as being a great performer, which is why he's one of rock's greatest frontmen & it hasn't stopped the Stones for over 40 years of rocking. I saw the bootleg video of Van Halen live at the US Festival back in 92 which is VH at their finest in those days when they were the kings of rock despite Dave partly forgetting words & it should be released to the public along with other classic concerts from that era.

theres quite a few bootleg dvds with dave out there

I have a boot from the Hagar/Roth tour, and Sammy blew David away. Sadly David didn't cut up with the audience alot, and had the same annoying yelp at the beginning of each song, I was ready for it to be over-ERIC

Maybe, but the song selection by Dave and his band was FAR superior to Sammy's. Dave's voice is pretty shot, but it was still awesome to hear him singing the VH standards.
