You need a choice for "It's average."

I can't vote. I'm undecided or can't find one that fits for me. I don't think Augeri wrote it/the band composed it with "radio hit" in mind per se. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely DIG the song. Better than BTC in my opinion. Where as a FITH without the intro and outro and TPIYH scream radio to me, this one just doesn't. Commercial it ain't.

The guys are right, there needs to be a couple more choices.
I think it could do ok. I don't think it is a commercial tune, but that could work for it.
I personally like the song (although I cannot agree with Red about it being better than BTC).
I would love for a Steve Augeri solo-penned track to be a big hit for Journey, but I do not see that happening from "Generations".

I voted "It doesn't do anything for me" b/c if I heard it on the radio and didn't know who it was, I would probably chnage the station.

But bro, you know you would know who it is after the first 20-25 seconds. So that doesn't apply. It's got the distinct Neal/Jon/Augie sound to it pretty early on.

I was speaking as a regular idiot radio listener, not a super-educated Journey fan.

Oh back to topic..

Firstly, what the Hell are the paranthesis in song titles? I hate that shit...Just call the song --

"Butterfly,"

not "Butterfly(She cries Alone, and tries to escape, but her hands are tied, and this title is really long, and I really don't know why I elected to include paranthesis, but I did so deal with it).

:o I have to say, I'm very surprised at the responses so far.....I happen to think this song is a beautiful ballad and Neal's solo is absolutely amazing in it...it gave ME the chills anyway. Remember when you first heard Send Her My Love? Well...that's sort of the same feeling I got when I first heard this song. Butterfly is certainly better than Knowing that You Love Me, at least lyric wise, in my opinion.

Well, it would be, if not for the reptition for the last few minutes. I think that is the one thing that is lacking in Steve's tunes. The lyrics he has are amazing, I love them, but it is like he only has half a song's worth and then he just keeps repeating them endlessly.

Neither of those ballads (KTYLM) or Butterfly are better. They're just too different to make that call. KTYLM has the classic JRNY bombast of a power ballad that we expect at LEAST one of by now (Like Andrew's review said, "You knwe it had to happen, so here is KTYLM"). but I'd never strike it from the album. Butterfly just a different thing altogether, balladwise. Love the Voc on it. Little Kiss me Softly-esque.

Ya know what, I'm more of a rocker myself, always have been, but there's just something about this song that pulls me in....I guess it's the melody, Neal's extraordinary guitar playing and Augeri's signature vocals. I'd put this song up against any of Journey's finest ballads, because I believe it has earned it's rightful place. I suggest you LISTEN to Butterfly more closely and feel the depth of the musicianship and maybe you'll appreciate it better?

I do like it, just saying I don't think it is a radio hit. It is a song that takes a while to grow on you, IMO. Compare it to WYLAW off Trial By Fire. That is a radio ballad. Doesn't make it better, it is just more accessible to the unwashed masses.
