Bon Jovi gets it

Postby Rockindeano » Tue Sep 20, 2005 12:32 pm

Hmm, they get on TV..They get airplay. They are front and centre...They're new CD isn't half as good as Generations...

The are innovative, and aggressive. Journey is the opposite of all the above.

I just saw BJ do a promotion for the Gulf rebuild, yet worked in their new CD, "Have a Nice Day."

By the way, you see they have the same exact light setup as Journey?

I remember when Herbie was manager, Journey was front and centre, innovative, and a pioneer in the industry..Now, while the music is top notch, management is archaic.....and passive.

Way to fuck up a good thing there John Baruck. You suck.

Journey does not have the singer that made them famous.
Journey has released three albums in the last 20 years.

THAT is why they'll never get a shot from critics/radio/some fans.

Speaking of Jon Bon Jovi, he and his band will be the featured guests on Oprah this Wednesday..... :P  I understand exactly what you're saying Deano and we'll see what Sanctuary has in store as far as supporting and promoting Generations.

BTW, 5 songs from Generations were played last night, 9/18 in Hollywood, FL

First set:
She's Gone Crazy (very energetic song live, but still out of place, IMO.)
In Self Defense (Great tune Neal, but it's not really new so I would have rather heard Out Of Harms Way)
The Place in Your Heart (enthusiastically introduced as their new single and was received very well, considering it was the first time most people heard it! Loved it, awesome light show during this song, too!)

Second Set:
Faith In The Heartland (killer song..fuckin' awesome!)
Every Generation (Fantastic song! Jon dedicated it to all the young Journey fans of which there were many!)

The Place in Your Heart..the new single?

It was due to radio a month ago. This is my point to a tee..WTF are they doing over there?

Christ, Bon Jovi started later, and now have passed them up..WTF?!!

In Atlanta last Friday night, they played TPIYH, Steve introduced the song saying it would be released to radio "this" week. They did play OOHW as well, a total of six from Gens.

I just saw the promo for Bon Jovi's appearance on Oprah. I like them, they had some good songs, but Jon was never as good a singer as Steve Perry and the band wasn't as good a Journey.

I think one thing that's helped keep them front and center is that the band is named for Jon and he kept his name out there doing his acting thing. Sambora and Heather Locklear sort of helped keep the name current too.

Jon was never as good a singer as a great many people, but I do like some of their music, Sambora is the best singer in that band by far imo.
They took some time off from the band but not to the extent Journey did.

I heard Richie Sambora on the radio the other day and the DJs were saying they couldn't believe BJ was going on Oprah. They asked him if someone had told him 20 years ago that they would be on Oprah one day, he said no, but who would have thought Led Zep's music would one day be used to sell Cadillacs? Times change.

They were on Stern today, too. Did you hear it, Deano?

OMG, he's blowing me away on Oprah. Not just because of the music, which is just as good as it was 20 yrs ago.

He's really doing great things for people and he just gave Oprah a million to help the people on the gulf coast. He's also building 4 HFH houses.

He's seems to be a really "real" and nice guy.

My wife saw the show and said that the million was from the whole band, although he presented it himself. Glad to hear that he seems to be a cool guy, I had the impression he was cocky and struck on himself, his performance gives that impression, and therefore have never cared much for him, besides not being impressed with him as a singer.

Yeah, the money was from the whole band. Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that he personally gave that much. I've never really thought of him as being stuck on himself. I'm not a huge fan of his but I've always thought he seemed like a sort of regular guy who made it big. I figured his onstage personna was probably just what he thought he was supposed to do to be a "big rock star". :) He's most certainly not a great singer, I guess he just has a good way of delivering his kind of song. I've got a boot of he and Steve Perry doing "Bring It on Home to Me" and he sure doesn't measure up on that, even though Steve wasn't at the top of his game on it either.

Listening to what is probably from the same show "I'll be there" right now for reference....wow - I don't think any rehearsal was done - just completely "blowin" (that's Jazz talk for on-the-spot).... and the results here are quite frightful.....let us hope that Steve and 'Bon' never work together again, at least live and impromptu.....Guitar solo ain't that bad though - anyone know what this show is or who else is playing? From the "Come'on 'City by the bay' intro it took place in San Fran.....

Can anyone tell what the heck Perry is saying after that?
