OT...kinda: Arrested at Karaoke...

I went to Karoke night tonight and wound up getting arrested for assault and battery. After I was done singing "The Girl Can't Help It," some guy made a comment, I told him to f-himself and wound up hitting him square in the temple when he came at me. I must have really clocked him because the last I heard he was on a respirator and there was no brain stimulation.
This is my four A&B offense so I'm looking at 4-6 years. If the guy dies, well...7-12 years. It cost my wife $1,500 to bail me out, but that's nothing compared to the trouble I am in...through no fault of my own. I have to be in court at 10am on Friday morning, at which time I'll be sentenced. Hopefully, this trouble-maker will pull through, but that's still a few years out of my life.
There were witnesses who said I didn't start the trouble...the other guy was LOADED...so that should cut down on my time. If the slob dies, well it's at least 7.

If it weren't true, I'd say the situation is (in some ways) morbidly funny.
Heck, even if it is true, I'm still gonna say the situation is still pretty morbidly funny.
(yet very sad all at the same time.)

Went for my court hearing....
Met with my court-appointed lawyer yesterday and I explained to him what happened. First of all, the dude is off the respirator and should be fine. I talked with his family and they couldn't have been nicer and understand how it happened. I apologized to them. Frankly, they weren't surprised by his actions. I learned he has a record about eight miles long and is VERY familiar to police in many towns.
Several people who were at the bar showed up per my lawyer's request and testified that I did not start the altercation and he came at me and I was defending myself. They said I have never been a trouble maker there, whereas, he has, many times.
Seeing that my last A&B charge was in 1984 and have not been in trouble since...the judge is giving me 150 hours of community service and a fine.
I lucked out in a major way...next time someone harrasses me at karaoke or anywhere else, I'm just walking away. Nowadays it's easy enough to find trouble without looking for it.
