I don't know anything about Laguna Beach, I've never watched it. I do know that what is and isn't smut in television programing is totally subjective. To me shit like Fear Factor, Survivor, and that inane Blind Date BS that used to be on, etc, are examples of smut. When it comes to advertising it's all exploitative unless it's for a reliable charity organization. I liked hearing AWYWI come on TV, it was fun at first, but I didn't like that it was being used as an advertising jingle.

Unless, of course, your boy-man is doing the singing. And the endorsing. Then it's OK.
