Here is a link for Perry singing

Postby jrnyman28 » Fri Oct 28, 2005 3:05 am

I have not been able to get the link to load yet, maybe too much traffic. But reports I have heard, Perry sings much lower, and a female reporter joins in singing rather poorly.

He sounded great and very confident. He's doused in champagne and seems to be having the time of his life. The parade is either Mon. or Tues. No one knew for sure at that time. Bound to see Perry among them.

Perry was just goofing off in front of the reporter. Naturally it isn't going to be a stellar performance. But, for goofing off, he sounded pretty good. I could actually hear him in the locker room over the baseball players - he sounded much more "Perryistic" there. That is, if you can get past the horrible singing of the players...hahahaha!

No doubt in my mind if Perry sings the song for real, he'd sound good on it still. I mean come on, guys get older and their voice changes. Perry's on the high side of his 50's...kind of hard to sound the same as you did in your 20's and 30's - especially tenors.

The links are all over the place from Backtalk to Perryville.

You going to the parade, Dean? I'm about 2 1/2 hrs away but I bet the T.V. will be the best place to watch.

Well, after seeing him sing that on the field, I do think he can record an CD..No doubt in my mind...especially with technology available..However, SP has always been a perfectionist, so....................

Ok, Perry people, you have my blessing..get your asses to work

Well, I finally heard it. Sounded alright, but I did not like the way he changed the melody line to accomodate.

I DID love the HUGE smile on his face though!!

He sounded great to me. I was so happy to hear that voice again, even in a raucous locker room. Who cares about the slight change in melody(Dave), I don't think there are many who could have sounded that good under the circumstances. I'm sure ready for another cd. GOOOOOOOOOOO STEEEEVEEEEIIIIIEEEE!!!!!

While the clip was fine...it was a little short to make that claim. But I think he sounded reasonable. But I do admire your passion for the music.

I thought it was interesting how he sang the words "hold on to that feelin'" using the notes from Neal's guitar solo.

Oh and BTW....when he sang it in the locker room, he DID sing it in its original key, hitting the highest note on "movie":

"Oh the MOV-IE never ends; it goes on and on..." etc.

I think he was able to hit it because of the noise level - he really had to project to be heard above the party.

I know you're a professional singer and it's quite apparent that you take your craft very seriously.
With that said, I gotta call your bluff here.
Even with my volume at full blast, Perry is barely audible.

He didn't sing the song differently so as to emulate Neal's guitar, or to emulate ANYTHING-
He did it 'cuz (currently) he has all the vocal ability of a cheeseburger.

You're a blind ideologue cut from the same cloth as Osama Bin Laden.
I don't negotiate, or "debate" rather, with ideologue zealots.

Perry could've shown up battling a double-tragedy-whamo of a tracheotomy all the while being entombed in an iron lung and you still would argue that his pipes haven't changed a bit.
Go eat a salami.

Oh c'mon Cause, you know he sounded better in that locker room than a lot of frontmen sound in the studio.

Oh, get off it.
In the locker room he wasn't even audible.
Out on the field he hummed his way through the tune...my grandma could even do that.

I've never said that his voice hasn't changed. Of coarse it has. Listen to an early Bing Crosby, Tony Bennett Frank Sinatra. Their voices changed from melodious to mellow. For the life of me, I can't see why anyone could find fault with WYLAW. When that song is on the radio, you can't hear a pin drop in my house. Everyone stops to listen. Of coarse that applies to any time his voice is on the radio, but that song more so.

Go eat a banana!

The only time I could come close to hearing Perry in the locker room was when the song would bleed through. I am certain I heard the music from DSB playing so they obviously had the CD cranked. But I honestly could not hear Perry at all in the locker room portion of the clip.

I misspoke(or mistyped)in that post Dave. I was really referring to the CBS clip of him singing to that reporter sorry for the confusion.

I've seen two clips of him singing on the field w/ a reporter. On both occassions he sounded OK, but like I said, he practically hums his way through it. And he's singing the song in a MUCH lower key.
The time to prove his stuff was in front of the captive 1.75 million Chicago fans.
There, he attempted to actually *SING* the song (not hum), and he fell flat on his face.
Most of the crowd was looking around confused like "Who the fuck is this hoarse sounding guy...Where is Steve Perry...this guy sucks ass."
