Roth demos from BOBW that didn't get used

Postby locobenno » Thu Jan 19, 2006 10:39 am

Taken with a grain of salt of course...BUT...Eddie and Dave laid down six tracks that, according to Dave, were an "instant 10 million" both lyrically and musically. Eddie didn't use them on the BOBW compilation because of the Hagar allignment.

Dave was trying to work out whether or not he'd be allowed to play them on his show (8-9am, 18 Jan show) since they are in demo form and haven't officially been released. I understand that:

a) There is no way Eddie would be letting Dave have a copy of the recordings if they existed; and
b) Dave still believes that Van Halen will be the "Rockstar II" band.

But BS or not, does the man know how to tantalise? You bet! I'm listening to retrospective recordings of his show and I don't think I'll be able to miss it again.

You know, DLR tours and VH doesn't.

I say Dave should just trot them out and sign them if he feels like it. Maybe that will get the brothers off their asses....

Red, check out this classic VH performance. DLR expertly covers up the fact that he forgets the words! :P

 Never exactly been "Mr. Subtle" ol' Dave.

Good for him, man. I can see that being a tough one to remember. Cherone covered it on the III tour.

Dave said, "Do you think Van Halen, if we got back together, would make a reasonable album or would it be a disappointment? I have [as in he has possession] half a dozen demos that I finished the vocals on with Eddie a couple of years ago on the second failin' of Van Halen, and the music is amazing! It sounds like it came off of the first album... red smokin' hot! ....the stuff is so good!"

I think it's just a matter of time before he plays them and Eddie calls in griping about it... Which could all be a ploy to get the ball rolling for the VH machine (with Dave).

As far as the RockStar rumor, I think Dave may be behind the times when it comes to hearsay. I'd still love to see it, but probably never will.

What would be stopping them?

You mentioned the live tracks available with Gary singing...that is a boot right? There are plenty of boots available with DLR I am sure.

I think the 'desire' for DLR live tracks has probably dwindled to a hardcore set. WB probably does not want think it is worth it.

I DONT EVER RECALL ANY LIVE ROTH VAN HALEN STUFF THAT I REMEBER.DONT THE BAND OWN ALL OF THERE STUFF OR HAS TO APROVE IT FIRST.BEFORE BEING RELEASED.JUST THOUGHT A LIVE CD OF THE BAND BACK IN THE DAY WOULD BE VERY COOL.

Well, like I said, any available Gary-fronted live material is a bootleg. So you could find boots for DLR-fronted stuff as well.

If I am not mistaken, the record label probably owns the rights to all the music and recordings. It is not unusual for a label to have that as a clause in the contracts to retain ownership of all recordings. That would likely include any concerts that might be recorded. So the label could release it on their own, without approval from VH. But it is more likely that the label does not "see" the demand for the product.

the reason why there hasnt been a live cd release with dave is beacuse he cant sing live to save his life.Has anybody heard any bootlegs of dave?I have a tonne of dvds with dave and he cant sing at all.I dont think eddie would bother.

Overdubs! haven´t you heard about Overdubs?
There´s not a single live album out there that hasn´t been fixed or do you actually believe that they would release a "raw" live recording with Sammy H. coz he´s a better vocalist than DLR?!
Well, the only thing I know is that when vanhalen played with DLR in Sweden back in 1984,they played in front of 30,000.
When they returned with Hagar in 1993,the crowd wasn´t bigger than 4,000.
I think that says it all!
I don´t mind Hagar,I love 5150 and his solo works but Vanhalen will never be as big again as they were with DLR!
Journey is not just a band,it´s a way of life!
