Again just my opinion.
Did Augeri sound good? I say this seriously. If he sounded good, it wasn't him
Arivalrules, thanks I wasn't happy to see that they still have No Matter What in the setlist and have had concerns about what DL's performance would be like this tour after hearing Joe on the Rock Honors show kill Rock of Ages. I was asking you since you said you were there and I read a few mixed reviews that sounded different. I personally don't like Roger Waters for example but I wouldn't say he stunk unless his performance was crappy. I'm not a big fan of DL's cover album and they did Rock On and No Matter What last tour and I absolutely hate the song Love Bites.

No problem, and of course it's just my opinion. I LOVED Leppard on the "X" tour in Baltimore with the "High and Dry" medley.
I was super dissapointed that they were not going to play "Foolin' and "Brining on the Heartbreak" and they didn't.......

Sounded "ok" when it went live. Not croaking or anything. All high notes he turned to Deen. I have no problem with that BTW.
I can't prove anything. It is entirely possible that they let Steve go "live" enough to make the boots sound different this time.
However, the voice inflections and such tell me that Steve A. was more live tonight that he has been since before the Generations tour.
Just my call.

KittyKat wrote:Deeno and Bionic, where are you seeing this? I know you said BT but I have re-checked the Camden thread several times for the part about the sound check and can't find the posts you guys are referring to. I did see in one of them that someone said Steve seemed tired and about Dean singing 4 songs but I can't find the rest of the stuff you guys are talking about.

It is on the On The Road section of the Journey main website where you can post show reviews.

I tried that but only the tour listing comes up, what am I doing wrong? I have seen the thread that is on the BT message board with reviews but that thread doesn't have the stuff about the sound check and other tid bits Bionic and Deeno mentioned.

From my understanding he does his own vocal excercises in a steamed room by himself for an hour or two right before the show. I have heard Jon, Neal, Deen and even once or twice Ross sing during the sound checks. No big deal. Noone usually there. As far as Deen singing the high notes, and singing 3 or four songs during the show is also not uncommon. They have been doing that for a while now. He actually sounds more like Perry to me than Steve sometimes. He can also hit the highest notes Journey has IMO. From everything I have read so far, Journey blew DL off the stage last night, and I am happy to hear they were able to get through. I think it's time to face the facts that they have some vocal "help", but from what I have been reading most all live bands nowadays do. Doesn't seem to be rare by any means. If that is all it is, I am fine with that. They remain the best live band I have ever witnessed. I would love to know what exactly is going on with Steve's throat and/or vocal chords, and if it will ever get better.

We went to the West VA State Fair on the Under the Radar tour, and we hung around the stands during sound check until we were kicked out. They played Line of Fire with no vocals, Steve was in the trailer for the soundcheck. When the gates opened, we actually did hear Steve backstage warming up before the show, he kept singing "Here we STAND.....Here We STAND.....SOMEDAY LOVE WILL FIND YOU...", I guess just warming up. I think "Higher Place" was the opening song in that set.
During the 2002 set, I was disappointed with Steve's vocals. He's clearly a great showman, and really enjoyed what he was doing (which is why I feel so bad for him now - It would literally be hell having to stand up there and struggle like that in front of thousands of people), but he ducked all kinds of notes, and changed the melodies to most of the songs to suit his range. Back then, the real reason I enjoyed the show so much was the amazing musicianship of the band, and the improvisation that went on. There was just amazing versions of Chain Reaction and others that had extended endings and went in different directions. The acoustic set with Liberty and Trial By Fire was amazing, and Neal's solo during that set was mind blowing. When we saw them last year at House of Blues, all of that spontenaiety was gone...
Jeremey wrote:There's no way to predict what may happen. I honestly thought last year was their last tour. I had no idea that they would put Augeri through another Main Event style tour. The guy is closing in on fifty. The songs were originally sung by someone in their early to mid thirties. I would have thought Steve could have sat back and rested and enjoyed himself this year, but I guess that's rock and roll for you.
In the meantime, Columbia isn't too far from Lancaster, come out to the Buford Sports Cafe tonight and catch our 3 hour tribute show! I will say that Buford Sports Cafe would be wise to invest in some smokeaters....Anyway, there's my plug!

As for Steve's age he's the same age as DL's singer. I know he doesn't sing in that high pitch range like the Journey guys but there has to be lots of them out there even older still singing pretty good. I bet Robert Plant can't do what he used to either.
I also caught a few sound checks last tour and Steve was never there.
