Vivian Campbell (of Def Lep) Won't Comment on Augeri Trouble

That can't be comforting news to Def Leppard's tourmates, Journey, who recently replaced ailing singer Steve Augeri with Jeff Scott Soto. Internet rumors suggested that Augeri was using backing tapes to support his vocals -something Campbell wisely won't comment on.

"Oh, I'm not going there, man," he demurs.

Always heard Viv's a classy guy. Just further confirmation of that, IMHO...

It's interesting that reporters are aware of this and bringing it up. I don't expect to be reading any new Journey interviews for a while.

Interesting because according to some who post on this very board, Def is guilty of lip synching also.

You are too funny.

You "heard" that Viv's a classy guy? So him not commenting on this means it is absolutely false. Got it.

I would think you defenders should feel ashamed. The burden of proof is ON you, and yet no one here can prove they DIDN'T lip?

Roxx, you are an embarrassment.

I think he is saying that Viv is classy because it is not Vivian Campbell's place to comment. That is left to internet forum goers only. We are an exclusive club and Viv isn't a member! ;)

Come on, Stuart. Are you a buddy of Roxx? Re read his post.

Rocks absolutely meant to emphasize Viv's "no comment" was validation of Augeri's innocence.

When he's not bashing Ronnie James Dio. VC's most recognizable riffs ever were on Dio songs, but he continues to distance himself from his best work.

Don't know the guy...but I read it differently...I haven't seen him really defending Steve so I am making the assumption I made, until he corrects me.

not lip synching! Using vocal enhancements.
another time in the show, different from one I mentioned. Def singer was into the show singing, hits a great note, turns say something, but nothing is coming out of spaeakers, then is singing again.

thee is a difference.
Augeri was not lipping a show, he had help, but that was it

Vivan is a good guy, why comment on something, your own team is doing-ERIC

By the way I enjoyed Def's set. Great help or no help!!!

Used to? I respectfully disagree. I've seen this band live many, many times over the years and Def Leppard uses "special effects" from time to time, like making Joe Elliott's voice echo or the "launching sounds" on Rocket, but Def Leppard doesn't lip synch.

There is a big difference between a special effect and lip synching.

And yes, Vivian Campbell is a nice person. I've met him several times. His treatment of the fans is most excellent and that's how I judge a "rock star" -- by how he/she treats fans. :)

Who the Hell is Aaron?

ace is getting his panties in a bunch.

Trust me ace, if a magazine comes along, you bet your sorry ass I am taking money. As much as I can get.

You know who I mean and why take any money :?: .. it wasn't even your idea. I thought you just wanted the "truth" to get out? If you got/get money are you going to pay Red for the boots? Or TNC for his suspicions? Or Andrew for the space he gave you for this Tape-Gate not to mention the bandwidth charges he's paying for this being a "hot spot" on the net? hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?

By play do you mean the "hard rock / metal sound / Dio sound?" I would agree with you there. Viv's taste in music seems to be much mellower now.

Did you listen to the solo album he released last year? Two Sides of If? It's a cover album primarily -- of old blues tunes.

I wrote a review of the album shortly after it came out. You can read it and hear a few song clips here:

http://www.slangwithme.net/reviews.html

It would seem that Viv is leaning toward the blues / rock mixture. I don't know if that is a result of age or a change in taste ...

RVR, you read my statement correctly...as opposed to Deano, who is clearly now obsessed with me, even after saying yesterday that he was "done" with me.

Go figure...

True. That's most magazine's problem with news stories. It takes forever from the fingers of the reporter until the thing hits the shelves. But at least they write about this.

so how much space will this take up in the next edition of Classic Rock? I'm hoping an indepth analysis or 3 page story and not just a few inches in the "news" columns. I subscribe to this mag.

There may well be something b/c a while back Jeb Wright who writes for the CRR website had an interview I think with Neal where he mentioned something to the effect of "Why don't just you shitcan this new guy and go back to Perry?"

But then the magazine itself, who he also writes for correctly tabbed Generations as a "masterpiece." :?
"I love almost everybody."---Rocky Balboa 1990
"Let's reform this thing.Let's go out and get some guys who want to work and go do it"--Neal Schon February, 2001
