Bon Jovi going country

Postby Angiekay » Thu Jul 20, 2006 1:25 am

Trust me...I WISH this was a joke...

Bon Jovi's success on the country chart this year just might be an indication of where the band is headed in the future. The group had a Number One country hit with their song "Who Says You Can't Go Home," which also featured Sugarland lead singer Jennifer Nettles, and singer-guitarist Jon Bon Jovi told the New York Post, "Here's my game plan: I'd like to get two or three artists to do duets with. I'd like to give a couple of Nashville songwriters a chance to shine, and (lead guitarist) Richie (Sambora) and I would write a few songs to prove we could hold our own with these guys." Bon Jovi added, "I can smell change coming. I do feel a growth period coming on in my life. I got that seven-year itch, and I feel like something major is going to happen soon... Anything is possible if you're willing to kick the door down." He didn't say when the new album might be released.

He makes it sound like he thought this up all on his own but Bret Michaels from Poison beat him to it.

I actually say "Country can have 'em!" I think his "vocals" (that nasaly sound he has) could be well suited to country music.

But I find it interesting that he feels the need to have country songwriters involved. And JBJ is going to take something that worked (the duet) and bury it in the ground. Hey Jon, you CAN have too much of a good thing!

Bon Jovi was trying Country way back when he did the Young Guns soundtracks, if it was true that he wanted to go in that direction, I can see him doing it, but not Richie.

...not a chance... as a one-off vague attempt at a pop-rock-country crossover track "Who Says..." was fine (just about...)... but I seriously doubt if a full blooded country album by the guys would be received well... if at all.

Please God NO!
