People And Places.....

Postby Moon Beam » Fri Jul 28, 2006 2:06 am

I thought maybe for something different we
could try this out.
Who's on your list of fave people and fave places?
Name anyone you like famous or not and if there is
something you would like us to know about this person
please fell free to tell us.
Okay I'll start us out............

I would have to say my favorite person ever was my
Father, he raised two girls without a wife while working
full time.

He had a hip replaced in 90 then while
I was in my early 20's developed four
different forms of Cancer and then Leukemia.
He never complained and often when heated
with someone would flop over like a fish and
give in to their wishes.
Funnier than the day is long he always had
people around him trying to return all the
smiles and laughter he gave so easily.
I could go on for days about him in a
positive light and the only negative thing
I could come up with to say would be that
he was a firm believer that a women's place
is with her man and children cooking cleaning
and shutting her mouth unless
she is asked for an opinion.
We often laughed that had I been any one else's
daughter he would not have tolerated me for long.
I was never a silent one

My favorite place I have ever been to is........
Manitoulin Island in North Ontario, we stayed
in a cottage located in Mindemoya and it was incredible.
It is then that I saw the Aurora Borealis(Northern Lights)
I had heard of em before but to see them was a beauty
I'll never forget.....colours of pink, blue, yellow and green
dancing across the black night was a sight I can't compare
to anything else I have ever seen.
Awsome fishing and water so clear you could see 20 feet down.

Come on folks share yours with us.
Who's up next?

Your story reminded me of this... Everyone I have ever known with cancer has been exceptionally brave. I have two friends with cancer right now and they are dealing so well with it. I absolutely look up to those people.

Both of my parents had it, and I am pretty sure it is in my future as well. If it is, I plan on using the examples they set to fight it and live life to the fullest.

Yeah, my dad never complained, either. He died in 2002. Meanwhile his friend who complains incessantly about every little ache and pain is still going strong. Good for him, but some people like to drag others down with them, and that is sad.

I hope your mother keeps fighting, Liz. Mine is a cancer survivor.

My dad died of cancer as well. Lung cancer(never smoked a day in his life). He fought long and hard and never let us see the ugly side of cancer. He was more worried about my mom and us kids then himself. That's the power of faith, I guess. I also had a co-worker whose family is rampant with cancer. Both her parents, a sister, a nephew a boyfriend and she herself got breast cancer at age 32. The only time I saw her upset was when her nephew died of stomach cancer at 39 a couple years ago...a tough lady still going strong at age 42.

Favorite people: My parents and brother

Favorite place: Paradise Island, Bahamas

Touching story,Moon...I love your sincerity.And everyone's here.

...And a nice topic as well.

My family is my everyday inspiration.

Thankfully, both my parents are healthy, they are both retired and living a quiet life, but they continue to be an example of strenght and passion for me.
My Dad was a professional football player and he was one of the best. From him I have learned how to use my inner strenght and never give up no matter how hard is the challenge. He taught me how to get up when I am kicked down.
From my Mom I have learned to do things with passion. She was a jeweler, she made the most beautiful gold jewels I have ever seen and she made them with her own hands. So much talent. She really loved her work. From her I have learned to make the difference between real diamonds and fake stones. She taught me to do that when it comes to people, too.

Our parents should outlive us.It is not fair to lose them or see them ill.

Places?

San Francisco.The Golden Gate Bridge.Pier 39.

Amsterdam.

I'd have to say I agree w/ your dad here. There is nothing in this world more important than a good mother to her kids. If a woman chooses to go out and work that's fine by me, daycare doesn't replace a mom. Statistics show that households w/o one parent or the other leads to alot of crime, poverty, etc. The ole nuclear family was the way to go. I think your dad was off w/ the shutting the mouth thing though. I like getting some suggestions from the wife, that way if anything goes wrong, I can blame it on her  hehe

I'll name one of my favorite people in the world, who is my hero for the last 4 years almost. I know it's not easy going from being a very active person, playing hockey and softball, owning his own construction business, and being a very very active Father to two young boys, to instantly being paralyzed from the mid chest down. Not that I know what it's like to be in that position, but I've been through everything with him. HE is my Brother. I was there when he got paralyzed, working a job with him, and out of the blue, he goes from being 15-20 feet in the air, to laying flat on his back, severed spinal cord. Life as he knew it a few moments ago, shattered.

It was not a family obligation to be with him through 7 weeks in the hospital, to building a wheelchair ramp on the front of his home with our family, to taking him, and watching him go through physical therapy. He became my hero when that happened, and for the fact that he never (in front of anyone) loses his cool or gets depressed or complains. In fact he often jokes about his position sometimes, just because it's better than feeling sorry for himself. That's what REAL hero's do. They live their life like there's no tomorrow.

favorite place - Central America with my family.

I haven't been here for awhile.

Nice thread.

3 years ago yesterday, my boyfriend at the time, lost his battle with Leukemia. He had lost his wife 3 years eariler to a rare disease and she left him with two small children. Three months later my father died of Lung cancer (never smoked).

Those children have been an inspiration to me. Watching them deal so well after having lost both of their parents, helped me deal with the loses I faced. Unfortunately, their family took them away and I never got to see them again. I found myself alone and broke in NYC. Still, little Ben and Kate kept me going, and soon an angel was sent to me. Due to a Journey song, I met the man of my dreams, my soulmate. He is now my husband and without him, I don't know where I would be now.

So my favorite people are little Ben and Kate and my husband.

My favorite place is right here in Brooklyn where I met my husband and anywhere we go together.

My favorite person? My wife. We adopted our daughter, nearly 7 at the time, not quite two years ago and have had some behavior problems. My second day back to work after bringing her home with us, I came home to find that my wife was pretty bruised and scratched up from head to toe. My daughter had several violent temper tantrums that day and one of the pastors at our church came to spend the day with her. Thankfully, the temper tantrums have gotten much fewer and farther between and she treats my wife much better. If it weren't for my wife hanging in there when we didn't feel like it, my little girl would most likely have found herself either back in the orphanage she came from or being put up for adoption.

Thanks for all these great posts people.
It's nice to know that others have been blessed
with having wonderful "Human Heros" in their
lives as well.

Raider I have been fortunate to stay at home for ten
years raising and caring for my pack-o-boys.
But I have been looking for work because we can't
stay on top of the bills.
My dad making cracks about womens place and shutting their
Mouths was always a sore spot with my sister and I
we would get on him like crazy when he started with that sheet.
She is now a specialized nurse and I am a SAHM.

Fave person: me  J/K, it would have to be my other half and my family. I don't want to tell any survivor stories, because I've lost several people to cancer in the past few years and it depresses me. Instead I offer this: one member of my family recently got chased by a gator, one blew up a vacuum cleaner trying to empty the gas tank on a tractor, one can skin squirrels and bake apple dumplings at the same time, most of us own pickup trucks, and all of us own guns. Jeff Foxworthy steals his material from my family, y'all.

Fave place: wow... so many! I love San Francisco, the Coastal islands around Georgia and South Carolina, the Sierra Nevadas, and the time-warp town I currently live in. I miss California the most.
