But Augerri sang the hits decent, and was a humble classy guy, so I gave him a chance. Then I got Tall Stories, and thought it was a pretty decent disc, and had the kind of energy I thought Journey could use. I got excited about Jourey again. Then Journey records Arrival version one which was way too heavy on ballads before they went back in and changed up the American release. Arrival is not a half bad CD, but it lacks a lot. I think Neal et al, didn't let Augerri just be who he was, then he just basically gave up by the time Generations came out, which was lame. Only good songs there are sung by Dean, and KTYLM by Augerri.
Enter JSS. Here is a guy I had noticed much before he got together with Neal for SS which kicked ass. Then I listened to some of JSS's other stuff and was suprised to find out how melodic his stuff his, having a great energy that I think Journey needs. So Jeff is touring with Journey...mixed feelings. I wanted Augerri to do well, but it seems the band kept marginalizing him. What would Jeff be like in Journey? If the band lets him be Jeff and doesn't dictate what a Journey singer has to do (like Augerri) then could be some good fress melodic rock. If they don't, then it won't be much better than before, just a different voice.
Seems like Neal gets up tight every once in a while and yells about how he's sick of ballads and wants to rock, and instead of making a kick ass recording with the intensity of Escape or Frontiers, he creates a kick ass recording for SS which he then folds because I guess it wouldnt pay the bills, and produces a mediocre Journey record, which does rock more, but not up to par for Journey IMHO.
Since Journey has some crazy idea in its collective brain that they really are the commercial rock they were accused of being for so long, they forget that the were a hell of a lot of great rock tunes the radio didnt touch, but fans ate up. Good to see they figured that out by playing those songs with DL, but I have a feeling its only because they think they have to becasue of DL's sound, and not because they got the message yet that we loved those songs.
If JSS stays, or if Augerri comes back, I hope they quit trying to be something and just be their best.

It makes me sick that Def Lippard is getting all this run, all this media, and Journey, a band that has sold 20 million more albums, plays on two pieces of Lowe's plywood, duct taped together for 80 mins. This is no Co headlining tour. Anyone who thinks that is either high or stupid; ie, Back Talker.

Keep this in mind:
Without Journey or Bryan Adams, Leppard draws about 4,000. They suck. Saw them on the X tour without help (good show actually) but they have NO drawing power on their own.

I agree! Journey is opening and could no doubt draw more on their own.
Keep in mind however, when this tour was booked, Journey didn't have a lead singer. They do now.
I think Journey should get Adams and tour together. The genres to me, are more closely linked.
would it be enough of a start until the mega bucks started rolling in again?

"Augerii?" "Neil?" "Ros?" are you huffing moth balls? I know for sure you're not a frustrated English teacher, unless you were one of the dirty ones masturbating little boys. Don't be a hypocrite. nobody likes it

No mega bucks rolling in for almost ANY rock band in 2006 - especially a band with members in their 50's. The hits are over. "Arrival" would have sold a lot........ in the 1980's.
American Idol bullshit is what sells. Just have to face it.

Rolling Stones, Eagles, U2, Fleetwood Mac, Bon Jovi?...it can be done. But even if you're are right, they could still do better than what their doing now musically. Cheap Trick still puts out new material every year or so. They still sounds like they always did, with good new songs from time to time, and they aren't getting any younger. They play small venues too, and they don't seem to care. They just do what they've always liked to do, and you have to respect that, even if you don't like their music.

A direct quote from a Beano post on the VH board, from a thread suggesting that Michael Anthony and Alex Van Halen comprise the most boring rhythm section ever in rock:
"If Deen Castranova didn't sing better than any lead singer in rock, I would say Journey would have the most boring.."
If you're going to play Spelling Police, at least spend some time at the freakin' academy, eh?
;^)

You don't want to go there pebbles. I've seen your awful spelling a million times. Quite the embarrassment.
