Power and Grace

You hear people with powerful voices, who can scream out sustained, lower notes.

You hear people with tenor voices who can smoothly sing very high, sustained notes.

Then there is (was) Perry. The guy could belt out high notes so powerfully and sustain them in a way that would make Augeri's croaking voice hide in shame.

The man was simply amazing.

yep,, thats why we are all gathered on this board,, plus the best band around,, bit hard on augeri though dude, he did what he could , why stomp on him ? with out augeri there might not be a need for a journey forum such as this.... journey is breathing and alive because of him......

According to A LOT of people on this board "any tenor voice" can keep "the gravy train" rolling. Augeri did an admirable job for 6 years, then along with the rest of the band, conspired to fake shows and but-fuck their fans. He'll probably take an undeserved amount of the blame, but he was the one who actually faked the shows so I have zero pity for him. None at all. When history writes the Journey impact on the music scene he probably won't be mentioned. As he shouldn't.

He did what he could????

When you step up to the mic in the name of Journey, you either bring it or go home. Period.

Doing what you can doesn't cut it. Neither does firing off excuses like :

He was sick (how many times did we hear THAT one?).
The monitors were off.
He was sick.
He sounded okay to me - I don't know what you guys are hearing in the bootleg
He was sick.
He has asthma.
He was sick.
He sang his heart out, as long as he is giving it all he's got that is good enough for me.
He was sick.
He is only human. I will take Augeri with flat notes over other singers.
He was sick.
HE SOUNDED GREAT! Oh, you mean BEFORE they started using tapes... Sorry.

Not every thread has to turn into a tape thing, please...

No worries. It's just getting a little old and once mentioned, causes too much grief and the original thread topics seem quickly forgotten.
