Maybe Augeri was ready to step-down, for whatever reason he might have, and this turned out to be the perfect opportunity???

That simply doesn't make any sense. If Augeri was "ready" to step down, there would have been a better and more dignified way to do it than a tape scandal that ends up making him look like a fraud.

True, true. But... (Cue the X-Files Theme music) what if he just wanted out, felt obligated to at least finish up this tour, decided to keep using tapes, got busted and is now risigned to just walk away from Journey, whether or not the circumstances are good? See what I'm saying? What if, as rumors have suggested, Augeri did want to leave the band awhile back and he stayed on long enuff to finish up this "CashCow" of a tour and was gonna walk after that? It is possible. He and the Band never coulda seen TapeGate coming and that just sped up the whole process...

I think "Faith in the Heartland", "Place in Your Heart", "Out of Harms Way" et al, are all plenty catchy and stack up against anything Journey's put out.
I swear, if "Departure" was released tommorow, fans like yourself would complain that the whole album is shit with the exception for "Any Way You Want It".

But, as he said, the production on the vocals SUCK.

I've always thought from day one of Arrival that the vocals were TOO dang THIN! They almost seemed like they were in the background as well.

Maybe on your tinker toy Fischer Price stereo.
He sounds upfront and crisp to me.
Noticeably more so than on the muddled sounding "Arrival".
Augeri's best sounding track on "Arrival" is one they paid out of pocket to later record and include, "World Gone Wild".

However, it can vary per system.
