Sammy Hagar Interview!

Postby Andrew » Tue Aug 15, 2006 2:45 pm

After 10 years of running this site...FINALLY!!

This morning I spent 40 mins on the phone with Mr. Hagar himself...great stuff....had a blast doing it (even though it was 7am here).

Will get this interview prepared and online soon.

I wouldn't mind a Gary Cherone interview either. Asking what happened with him and VH. The music they supposedly recorded for the follow up album, what's on his plate now, etc.

He has been working on a solo CD (or at least EP-very different, more R&Bish) and the Extreme Reunion.

Andrew, I'm fairly new to the board, but I've been a site fan for over 5 years, and I just wanna take a moment to say THANKS for the great work. You've given me a place to go to reconnect with alot of the great artists of my youth, and to discover lots of exciting new ones. If it doesn't get said enough, Thank you!

Outstanding interview, Andrew. I enjoyed every bit of it. Sammy is one of my favorite artists, and this interview was right up there with the best you've ever done.

Yeah, great interview. You can tell what kind of a person he is from all of his interviews... the kind of person you could hang out with, and talk about anything! Great interview, Andrew... looking forward to more. I haven't bought a Sammy Hagar album since VOA (1984!!!), but the next time I see his latest, I'll pick it up. It sounds interesting!

I would love to hear from Cherone as well... I am a big Extreme fan, and maybe he would want to publicize his recent EXTREME shows. I haven't read much from him about VH, and it would be interesting.

I once got kicked off of EddieVanHalen.com for saying that Eddie was a drunk during the 2004 Van Halen tour. It started a big forum war and I got blamed for it. Those hardcore EVH fans did not want to hear that their hero has become a drunken has-been. I'm not happy about it either, but at least I didn't delude myself like they did. After reading your interview with Sammy, it's obvious now that I was right at the time. But nobody wanted to be the first one to "diss" the King by saying he had become a drunk. Those mods on the Van Halen forums are as bad as they are on the Journey forums. If you diss a member of their band, they will boot you out.

I still can't believe it when some people say EVH "rocked" during the 2004 VH tour. He sucked really bad at the show I saw in Saint Louis. He was obviously inebbriated out of his mind.

He was pretty decent at the Omaha show I went to. I feel fortunate for that, because I've heard a lot of people say the same thing you said.

I think he was off on Augeri a little. One of the misnomers is that Augeri's easily dismissed as someone trying to sound like Perry...

he DOES sound like him, that's the way he sings, it's a big part of why he got the job.

Love the part where he talked about his idea that the Sam/Dave tour was his desire to get cool w/ Dave and then the both of them put the heat on the brothers to do a monster VH reunion thing....best laid plans.

Nice interview, Andrew.

Although I'd really like to ask Sammy how he could've donated money to Bush and still slept at night.

All political campaign donations in the U.S. above a certain amount are public knowledge...i.e. you can't anonymously donate to a candidate and all candidates have to publically reveal the names of everyone who gave them money.

As such, there's a site I found back in 2004 that's basically a database of all major campaign contributors, including famous people, and I remember seeing that Sammy donated the maximum ($2,000) to Smirky...err...Bush. Since Bush's tax policies heavily favor those who make over $200,000 a year, I'm guessing this was more financially driven, but still, it was somewhat depressing...Sammy didn't seem like someone who'd be all about needlessly bombing and invading other countries, but I guess I was wrong.

edit: here's a link. You can also look up any number of other individuals if you get bored.
