Felony & the solo from 'Superstitious'

Not sure if anyone knows about this swiss band called Felony. I've owned the indie release for awhile now, and it's to be officially released through Escape Music soon. But anyway, I've given it a few casual listens over the past few months, I didn't really pay attention to the cd until tonight. One of the tracks features an exact duplicate of the guitar solo from 'Superstitious.' Urs Fischer dedicated the mastery of this solo to his mentor, but do you consider borrowing this solo a tribute, or an infringement?

I did a review of the independent release a while back. I can't really comment on the guitar solo issue but I know that I wasn't OVERLY impressed with the release. It got a 3 out of 5 review. I liked the music but wasn't thrilled with the vocals.

i'd be really curious to hear this...Superstitious is one of my favorite solos of all time. Can you post a link or upload the file somewhere or something (even if it's just the solo)?

There's other instances of this, though...Mike McCready of Pearl Jam has said his solo in "Alive" was basically copped from the Doors' "Five To One," but no one seemed to mind.

So long as you have other songs or other pieces which are your own creations, a little nod or tribute to one of your influences is fine...god knows Dream Theater's done that plenty of times.

Hey, I agree! I think SUPERSTITIOUS has a PHENOMENAL solo. It put Kee in the upper echelon as far as I'm concerned. It was one of the few solos I was actually moved to learn note-for-note back when it came out, and I still know how to play it. I still enjoy listening to it to this day, and am always blown away by it. His phrasing/technique is perfect... the scalar parts are simply awesome... it's melodic... it's intelligent... it rivals anything Neal Schon has done melodic-wise, and technique wise. It enhances the song... it is a perfect solo!
