My dad is so gay...come on? I love Raised on Radio! But he made me vote for frontiers, which I also like.

Dean, get a grip. :)

For me it's a close one between E5C4P3 and Frontiers....but I went for Frontiers nevertheless...

That was the band at its peak, musically....and that was also the beginning of the end, in some ways......sad....

My vote is the obvious choice of Escape, but I truely enjoy Evolution... Lovin You is Easy, Just the Same Way, Too Late, When Your Alone are 4 of my favorite Journey Songs.

Least fav album would have too be Generations, just doesnt do it for me.

Where do you stand on Pre-Perry Journey Neal Is God? I like Generations a lot but being a guitar player and ultimately a Neal Schon fan I happen to like the Pre-Perry Journey albums better than Generations. The music (especially Neal Schon’s playing) on the first three albums was absolutely amazing even though it was not commercially acceptable. I’m just wondering why you like Generations more that’s all.

I am not a fan of it. When I discovered Journey, Captured had just come out. Then E5C4P3 followed it up and I HAD to get their earlier stuff. When I heard the pre-Perry stuff, I was about 14 or so, and what 14-year old is gonna like that? And I never really gave it another chance. Maybe I will...

My favorite Journey album has long been "Frontiers". Every track, with the possible exception of "Back Talk", is very strong. Even BT has a hard rocking edge to it.

As far as the best live performances of the band, I'd definitely go with the "Departure" tour. The shows I've heard from the boots on that tour are consistently incredible almost from top to bottom.

I love Frontiers and Escape. I really like Evolution but my favorite by a slight maragin is Trial By Fire. I can't really put my finger on why. I just like that album.

Generations isn't bad, I don't understand the hate. I like it a lot more than Arrival.

Both are good.
Arrival has too much filler.
Just 'skip' thru the insufferable balladry and the album is as close to a modern day Escape as the band has yet to put out.

I love TBF. All the guys were at their very best and I loved the way Perry's voice had mellowed. It would be a dream come true if they all matured enought to finally tour with that album. It's definately unfinished business.

My mistake Nig. I was going by what album I listen to the most, not by which was Journey best. Maybe it wasn't Perry's best work but I enjoy it the most. I liked how he looked and sounded.

I'll buy that... it's fine without the filler, but like you said, there's too much to skip.

And while you state their best work, why not post their worst ever efforts aswell, if there are any.

DEPARTURE: Best as it has a little bit of everything but not so much that it's a disjointed effort. A very fluid recording.

Gotta be EVOLUTION for me. It's the album that turned me onto Journey when I was a wee lad. Some of the first "videos" I ever saw were the promo clips for that album (I think most are up on youtube) The album just takes me back to a great time in my life, and it has a great balance of ballads and more rocking tunes.
I also love ESCAPE. It's a close second to me.

Worst...say it with me RAISED ON RADIO...or as I fondly refer to it...the turd! Like Suzanne and BE Good, though. I'll give it those two. But I think the title track may be the worst piece of shit Journey ever did. Surprised that one never comes up when talking about their worst...and those videos? Chripes...Jon Cain looks like Bea Arthur wearing a fright wig...UG-LY! Allthough it IS pretty cool that they got Fat Albert to play bass on that tour.

But I think their finest line of work is Escape and Frontiers, perhaps some of their earlier work aswell, such as Departure and co, but these two (frontiers and escape) are perhaps their best efforts in terms of sales, popularity, unique and just complete!. I feel their early years were their greatest years, probably 1980 - 1983.

My feelings exactly. I voted for ROR...although there's no doubt that Journey was at its creative and commercial peak between 1980-1983 I reckon Perry himself hit his peak on ROR.

Having said that...ROR still sounds like a classic Journey record. Sure, it differed from the previous albums (I guess mainly due to the success of "Street Talk" and Schon and Cain following where the money was at that time)...but I still think the argument that it sounds like a Perry solo album doesn't give Schon and Cain enough credit for their contribution. Schon did some brilliant solos on ROR and this often seems to be overlooked.

Also - at least Journey's sound was evolving in the 1980s - and that's partly what made them so great. Each album was so different from the last...and they were always trying to push things forward. It seems to me that ROR was the last record where Journey took a risk...and they've been playing it safe with diminishing returns ever since.

Although it's not listed, Captured is what I listen to more than any. That's easily the best line-up, as far as I'm concerned. Maybe it's just the nostalgia of it...I don't know. With the exception of Escape (which is a very good album), it's been downhill from there. Which is not to say they haven't made any good music since then...just not AS good.

So if you were one of the cheerleaders you'd first of all try to escape and then opt for Trial by Fire if caught...wouldn't it be easy to just take it like the other 19
