Sorry...I don't feel as though I'm really refuting any of my arguments! I said that I (not anyone else) would gladly spend my hard-earned money to see Jeff singing with Journey. I love the guy's attitude and think he has some pipes. Now, would I go and see Jeff if Perry didn't make these songs famous in the first place??? Of course not...I would have no connection to the guy or the music! And to answer your question...Yes, I absolutely believe there are MANY fans attending Journey concerts that still (even after almost 10 years) have no clue that Steve Perry isn't the lead singer of Journey. Read Jeff's post...he has said it himself on this board! I'm not sure how you can refute what the present lead singer is saying he hears from countless fans, night after night! To address another one of your questions...I have no doubt that there are some people who attend as many Journey concerts as they can get tickets to, and there is no question that those fans are well aware of who is in Journey and who isn't. That said, those fans represent a VERY small percentage of the overall tickets Journey sells to concerts, thoughout the course of a given tour. Finally, I don't agree with your assertion that Perry's vocals aren't heard promoting upcoming concerts. I heard countless commericals on the radio in the Boston area promoting Journey's show last Saturday night, and EVERY single song they played was Perry's voice. If I were Perry, I wouldn't even allow that, as it seems fraudulent on some level. Perhaps he has no control over that.

I can'tr buy that after almost 10 years the majority of people going don't know it's not Perry.
I CAN buy that they don't mind.

And John, for clarification purposes, those commercials you hear w/ Perry's voice: Are they playing LIVE Perry recordings, or the studio cuts.

And for alot of fans that is not the order of importance.

This is an opinion, and you are entitled to it. I am of the opinion that it has been enough time now that the majority do know that SP is no longer the lead singer. The first time I saw the SA lineup on the Arrival tour, there were many who had no clue that SP was no longer there. I have seen them every tour since, and the number of "surprised at no SP" fans are definately in the minority now. At least this has been my experience the last couple of tours.

On the topic of advertisements, the radio stations have always been using the studio SP cuts for promotions. Is that Journey's fault? Maybe, maybe not. If their management had been doing what they paid them for since Arrival came out there might be a different scenario now, but management has done nothing for Journey post SP.

If you don't believe me...Read one of Jeff's recent postings. He said himself in the posting that most people he meets are "stunned" to find out that Perry is no longer a member of Journey. The guy hasn't been in the band in almost 10 years and most fans still have ZERO clue that Perry isn't the frontman of Journey! I would imagine if Journey sold out a 10,000 seat venue for a concert that less than 500 of those 10,000 people have any clue about the history of Journey and who the lead singer presently is or why Perry is no longer with the band, etc. That leaves a whole lot of concert attendees who are simply feeling a bit nostalgic and wanting to be transported back to 1983 for a few hours!

I think John is bang on with this. And JSS is right, the general public doesn't know Perry isn't there anymore and just like the Journey tunes. When I was getting my haircut at the hairdressers a couple weeks ago, classicrock radio was playing (late appointment) and Feeling that Way came on.....one of the hairdressers asked if anybody minded if she turn it up a bit, great old Journey song she said. Course, I pipe up "not at all". Anyways......got to talking about Journey etc. And she said I heard they got back together and are out touring again with Def Lepard! Course I set her straight that it wasn't Perry but a new singer........LOL, I didn't go into the whole who is replacing so-and-so and so-and-so. She was blown away that I'd actually met Perry and made me promise to bring my pics in next appointment. Sorry for rambling on blah, blah, blah but you get the picture........there is a ton of closet Journey fans out there.....but they aren't die-hards so they don't have a clue that if they went to a Journey concert that it wouldn't be Perry singing......they just dig those old Journey songs.

Explain to me why you would spend time on something you don't like? I don't get it?

Lynyrd Skynyrd is playing near me coming up. All the radio spots have Ronnie Van Zant's vocals on them. And how long has Ronnie been dead?

Just throwin' that out there.

For the record, I wasn't suggesting it was Journey's fault, at all! I was simply making the point that if I were Perry, I would have a real problem with concerts being advertised, using my vocals. One could argue that it misleads the fans who might potentially purchase tickets to the shows being advertised! I definitely do agree with your point about Journey's management (mismanagement is probably more apropos!) This band has ZERO clue how to promote itself!

Well...

#1 Perry doesn't seem to have ANY fleeting interest in re-joining Journey.

#2 If he did by some divine intervention, Journey might make some waves, but once casual fans discover that it's not Powerhouse Perry from 1983, they'll be disappointed... then Perry will freak out and call off the tour. IMO they are pretty much doomed to the touring circuit whether they get Perry back or not.

#3 I saw Journey with JSS three times (I tried but couldn't sell my tix  so I had to) and I was not overly thrilled. Sure it was an okay show, nothing mind-blowing. I don't know, I just can't see what's so orgasmic about this lineup.

Really? You do know that they played themselves last year and were selling places up to 15,000. Sure, some areas of the country they are bigger, ie, Detroit (go figure), Philly, and of course the west coast.

Yogi, I think you are talking about Twigs in the wrong forum.
