Interesting Sales Number Statistic

In the interest of full disclosure, this is not Journey. That said, this is the only board that matters on MR, so this is where I felt like posting it I was watching VH1 Classic Albums last night (great show, by the way) and they were featuring Meat Loaf's "Bat Out Of Hell". According to Jim Steinman, the official sales numbers on that album are 34 million copies, and he went on to say that he believes it has probably sold many more copies than that. That is a fuckload of albums to sell. I don't think Journey's Greatest Hits has even sold half of that many. Anyway, I was just stunned that "Bat Out Of Hell" sold that many copies.

Good call PC...those numbers are indeed world wide. As you said though, world wide or not, it's a crapload of albums to sell. I never realized it was quite that successful of an album (for the record, I think it's superb).

As of 5 years ago BOOH was 14x multi-platinum(2 million sold) thats 28 million and by now it probably is up to 34 million......and it's a great album. Love the new one (BOOHIII) as well.

Sure I heard it! I told you...I think it's fucking SUPERB!!!!! I mean who the hell else could ever turn a 10 minute song like "Paradise By The Dashboard Light" into the classic it is? Great fucking album!!!!!! I just had no idea it sold that many copies. That's quite a number for one album. By the way Deano...I forgot to mention that I'm a Howard fan from WAY BACK. I still love your other avatar more. Your other avatar was simply a classic, and I'm starting the petition to bring back jabba the hut!

The first Bat out of Hell is indeed a cracking album. Sadly the new "Bat 3" is pretty much crappola, average at best, but really a rehash of a few of Stienmans "Bad For Good" album tracks and 2-3 new ones.
Its no wonder Jim didnt want anything to do with it at all.
