don't forget, he's good at striking deals that keep him from doing jail time, for tax evasion.

I appreciate a lot of music that's as old or older than I am, including The Beatles, but I can hear them at least 5 times a day on the radio. How often does Sam Cooke or Jakie Wilson get played these days?

Excellent topic.

I voted for other.

My music was handed down to me by my sister, not my parents.

She listened to The Who, Journey...lots of (what is now) classic rock stuff.
She also listened to the "oldies" radio station a lot, so pretty much what she was playing, I was hearing.

I found SP on my own when I was 7 (when Oh Sherrie came out), and I didn't know that he was the "Journey guy" at the time, until she told me.
At 7 I guess I was a little too young to make the connection. But I do have clear memories of Journey being played around me when I was a little tyke. I had 2 older sisters playing that music around me, all the way back to Infinity.

My sister was BIG into The Who, and ever since I was about 6, they've been my favorite band.

What will I pass down? The Who...Journey...The Beatles...all the greats of the 50s and 60s...the awesomely bad 80s (which I love)...Aerosmith...the classic rock stations will play A LOT.

Well I'm hoping my parent's hand-me-downs are not handed down to me or my brother for quite a while. My mom died this Feb. (breast cancer) but my dad has all their "stuff" still. Dad has lots of Queen, Beatles, Zeppelin, etc. He plays guitar (not as much now as he used to) & was in a Beatles cover band looooong time ago with a horrible name...The Birth of the Cool...he swears HE'S not the one who came up with that name, lol.

My mom loved all sorts of music, even loved all the 80's hair band stuff I listened to in high school in the late 80's, lol.

Niggy do tell of this, how old was ya?.
Do you remember much of it?

Thanks lot, there's some great musical
hand me downs here.

Melissa, sorry for the loss of your Mother.
My Father lives on daily in many ways but
song is my fave.
He had an awful voice but always made us laugh.
I sing constantly and I think my boys hate it as
much as my sis and I did with my Daddy.
Must mean I'm teaching em right
Keep the stories and memories coming folks
I love reading them.

I guess I could add Elvis in there too. My mom still has all of her original 45s with the hard cases that flip open. She's probably sitting on a fortune but refuses to part with them.

My older brother is the one who had Journey albums. I first heard them in '79/80 at a school dance and went home and dug through his albums until I found theirs. I quickly confiscated all of them.

When I was very young, my Mom listened to Beach Boys, 5th Dimension and Streisand. Later, she started listening to Barry Manilow. My Dad still listens to music from the 50s and 60s.

In reverse of this question, I got my Mom listening to Journey. She has now been to 6 shows!

I should add that Arlo Guthrie was handed down to me, by my Uncle a few decades ago. I saw him live a few weeks ago and he was great, though cutting an 18 minute song down to 8-9 minutes and doing the same schtick live as far as almost verbatim stories on every live recording he has available, is a little tiring. I suppose when you do these same songs for up to 40 years, you just kind of get in a rut and never get out.

It was nice to meet him though, even if he was very quiet off stage.

I have my parents records and have collected a couple thousand more. My Mom had a collection of Tony Bennett 45's. Most of his early work. My children appreciate the vinyl and enjoy all the oldies, so from my parents, to me, to them.

Hey Moon, great thread!

I was force-fed the Beatles by my sister at a very young age. Still have all my 45's :)
