Speaking of constantly bringing the forum down...

Hell, TNC might even BE both!! ;)

Dave, that was so quick! I had to take a second look to make sure it came from you and not Nig. I'm still having visuals about what a metal affliction is tho, lol. Sounds painful.

He's right here though that it is difficult to refrain from a descriptive joke on the chance there could possibly be a person who might know someone who could be affected by the subject of the joke....

You know I think it is different for those of us who actually have a person who is LIVING with them , than a person who says, "I have a family memer that is disabled or whatever the issue may be, that is NOT actually LIVING with them.

Meaning that when you are a CAREGIVER of a person who is disabled you see first hand what they go through & know HOW really difficult it is for them every day, so it is taken MORE PERSONAL for the CAREGIVERS, where as someone who says I have a family member that is disabled ... BUT doesn't LIVE with them, or is NOT the CAREGIVER of that person on a regular basis, so they don't see "first hand" what great challenges they deal with every day, so sad to say, but I guess for them, it is easy to make a joke of them.

And I'm not trying to censor the board here, if others want to JOKE about them, I guess that is their perogative here, but as a CAREGIVER of an adult daughter with developmental disabilites, and one REALLY KNOWS first hand what she goes through, I don't find it funny!

I understand the crudity of the joke can be offensive to someone it personally touches. But my only point was that sometimes the odds are in your favor that it will not touch anyone personally so it would just be a descriptive joke.

Thanks HOTS. NIG usually is the one to throw a zinger.....

I very nearly soiled myself on that one.

I think I started this thing (this time around, at least), because I responded to TNC's "Corky" joke. For the record though, I was not offended...I simply stated that I didn't find any humor in Down Syndrome. So maybe I can end it here, too.

Down Syndrome is far more than a "mental affliction". It has a multitude of physical disabilities that go along with it as well. My daughter has had: open heart surgery (to repair two holes in her heart), brain surgery (to repair a defect in her skull), eye surgery, and numerous surgeries on her ears (she's partially deaf). She's 4 years old. She is unable to walk...and speaks very little (a few words and some sign language). Also, she is 10 times more likely to develop lukemia than a "normal" child. And I watch her cry her eyes out every day because she cannot do the things that the other kids do. So, no...personally, I don't find any humor at all in Down Syndrome.

That was all I was saying. And if I had to do it over again, I probably wouldn't bother replying. My mistake.

I admire your strength, I know I would "do it" if I had to but I feel like saying "I don't know how you do it."
Please never fear or 2nd guess replying to anything here.
