3. Nickelback
4. 3 Doors Down
5. Foo Fighters
6. Evanescence
7. 12 Stones
8. Shinedown
9. Coldplay
10. Metallica
11. Lifehouse
12. Linkin Park

15. Gin Blossoms
16. Sister Hazel

Slayer!!

God, I used to sing me some Slayer. I didn't pay any attention to the lyrics at the time, and in retrospect I really wish I would have never paid a dime for their records. Good music, though.

Cannibal Corpse?

Their lyrics are disgusting...The first time I read the lyrics to one of their songs and I couldn't eat a hamburger for weeks.

Cannibal Corpse has them beat. The lyrics are so vile, even I won't post them here.

But of course I'll send you a link

Just pick a song. Each one of them are there.

You have to at least get "Dead Winter Dead" and "The Wake of Magellan". Those are the two that sound the most like what you're hearing with TSO. Other than that, "Gutter Ballet", "Streets: A Rock Opera", "Edge of Thorns", "Handful of Rain", and "Poets and Madmen" are also excellent. If you like power metal, "The Hall of the Mountain King" was their breakthrough and is also very good.

This is kind of an off topic observation, but has anyone noticed the dramatic similarities in melody structure from just about every "pop rock" group out there? It seems like acts/producers are taking this "angst" thing to the extreme, to where every song now with a girl singer sounds like she's about to jump off a fucking bridge, and the melody to every song has those huge swings between high and low - I can't describe it, but very angular melodies are in vogue now, which is hard to describe, but listen to Avril Levigne's dumbass song "Keep Holding On" and listen to that swinging melody that just jumps from high to low. Echh...It sounds like nails on a chalkboard to me.

Why does modern music sound like it's catering to 11 year olds? I mean - Does anyone over the age of 22 listen to pop radio anymore? 'Cause I know those guys are listening to anything BUT what's on pop radio, including lots of Journey.

At the age of 35, I guess I'm just an old man.

It's posts like this that make me realize just how old 36 (my age) really is. Out of that entire list, I think I've actually only ever even heard of 6 of those bands and out of that entire list, I would say Creed is the only band who I can say that I like most of their music.

That is one thing about music that has not changed over the decades. Whatever style is in, is copied over and over and over again by every band out there that is popular. Now, I do like the modern rock sound...it's grown on me. Of course I still love the 80's melodic rock sound and always will, but bands like 3 Doors Down or Nickelback are good.

Now, I'll admit, I do like some Avril stuff. Guilty pleasure I guess. But, I tend to like more of her songs that are not her most popular. Like the song off of her debut album, "Tomorrow." I think it's a good song. I haven't heard her newest song yet though.

When I first got into Evanescence, I really liked them because there were no other bands out there who sounded like them. The closest one I could think of is Lacuna Coil.

I'm 38 and think almost all new music is shit.

However, sometimes I try the soundbytes Andrew puts up and find some new groups I like. The Poodles and Waltham come to mind. VERY melodic.

6. Evanescence
9. Coldplay
11. Lifehouse
13. Green Day
15. Gin Blossoms

I don't listen to any of the above on a regular basis, but they're the only ones whose songs I've heard & liked at all. I went nuts on Coldplay's Clocks at first, but the rest of the album was kinda "blah". I really liked some of Evanescence's first album. Lifehouse's first album (thanks to Barb for turning me onto it) was fantastic, after that, they went kinda blah. Green Day I didn't really go for until Boulevard of Broken Dreams. Gin Blossoms, I'm on & off with.

But I do like a lot of other music, just not in ur list.

Yes absolutely Jeremey. It all sounds the same. I really feel like kids miss out today. I remember the day when u turned on the radio & heard Journey, The Eagles, John Cougar (before he was Mellencamp), Tina Turner, Culture Club, Level 42, Hall & Oates, Simply Red, Big Country, etc., etc. Much more diversified!

#1 is Journey of course.
then after that, from this list, I listen to:
Creed
3 Doors Down
Foo Fighters
Coldplay
definitely Metallica
Staind

had to edit to include 'from this list' because there are so many more.
