Would the Average Joe pay to see DLR with Van Halen?

General Intelligent Discussion & One Thread About That Buttknuckle

Would a DLR/Van Halen tour sell more tickets than a Van Hagar tour?

Van Halen with David Lee Roth would definitely outsell the 2004 Van Hagar tour.

More people would pay to see Van Hagar than they would Classic Van Halen with DLR.

Would the Average Joe pay to see DLR with Van Halen?

Postby Voyager » Sat Jan 06, 2007 9:42 pm

Do you all feel like a DLR/Van Halen tour would be highly successful? Do you think the Average Joe on the street really even cares if David Lee Roth or Sammy Hagar is in the lineup? Do you think tickets sales would be better with DLR at the helm as opposed to Hagar?

For example, my wife wanted to see Van Halen with me in 2004, but she didn't have a clue who was even singing. I don't know if the Average Joe out there follows this issue any closer than my wife does. I'm wondering in the 2004 Van Halen tour ate up a lot of the ticket sales that would have been sold in 2007?

Any thoughts?

The mere thought of re-living the 80's will tempt people into buying tickets for this tour. The Van Halen brothers know that and are counting on that. Eddie will always have the distinction of being one of the greatest rock guitarists in the world. He has, however, managed to tear apart and destroy one of the greatest hard rock bands ever. Will I buy tickets for this circus? Not on your life!

I agree, and let me explain why. If I knew of a great architect who had a fabulous reputation as one of the best architects in the world, I would probably be willing to pay the price to get him/her to design my new home or commercial building. However, if that architect developed a bad substance abuse problem that started affecting and degrading his work - all of a sudden the demand for his services would dramatically decrease. This is exactly what has happened to Eddie Van Halen.

I don't think that the average Joe would care either way...they would go for it, jumping at the chance to see these guys.

Me, I don't know...all I'm hearing from my fellow "not-so-average-Joe's" is negativity about this scenario, and I tend to agree. I can't see me paying to see this lineup. I'm much more likely to go see Sammy and the Other Half again next summer, something I know I'm going to enjoy and get my money's worth.

I like your analogy, Voyager. You need to know your architect before you write out that check.

I was thinking that maybe if they actually got good reviews, I'd consider seeing this. BUT who's to say that it would be the same by the time they got to this area...anything can happen with these guys, its kind of risky.

The only problem for me with the Other Half was when they played a VH tune that had a signature Ed solo (and how many don't?), Vic Johnson just did not pull it off - in my opinion. Vic's a great guitarist for Sammy, but just doesn't sound enough like Ed to me.

Otherwise, I'd agree and say let's have a shitload of fun watching and hearing Sam and Mike crankin' out the old VH stuff!

My 12-year neighbor sounded better than Ed during that disastrous 2004 tour.

I totally agree. However, given Eddie Van Halen's current state of mind, I actually prefer watching Vic play guitar for Sammy as opposed to Eddie. It's much more entertaining and much less of a drunken bitch fit.

Cmon people,Eddie is too busy making porno movie music and drinking to care about his band anymore. The original lineup will be the last thing that can save Van Halen, but it won't last that long to make a lasting impression anymore.
