Gotta agree. Dokken? Hopefully, as a guitar player you were there to see George Lynch because I really can't see any OTHER reason. Dokken sucked.

Dokken sucked? Don Dokken is right up there vocally with Dennis DeYoung, Mickey Thomas, Brad Delp, etc. And George Lynch is one of the very few lead guitartists that established his very own unique and amazing style....like Eddie Van Halen, Neal Schon, Jimmy Page. Dokken was an excellent band, they rocked and melodically! Give us a break and get your ears checked.

Get your head out of your ass. Don Dokken was Michael Keaton with a mullet. A joke.

Don Dokken was/is an excellent vocalist. You obviously don't recognize excellence in vocals. And most everyone in the 80's rock bands had that look you idiot. You probably still have it.

Most people do not know who Dokken is anyway, so there you go. Besides that, most metal fans that I know of at least like Dokken somewhat. Three of their albums, "Tooth and Nail", "Under Lock and Key", and "Back for the Attack", stack up against just about anything else in the 80s, in my opinion.

Those are the 3 I like. After that they turned to a more modern sound and it wasn't the same, save for a few decent tunes here and there.

The solo LP Don Dokken - Up From The Ashes is pretty good.

Yeah, that was a good album, just as good as the three previous Dokken albums. Actually, it sounds exactly like Dokken even aside from the vocals. They may as well just have called it Dokken.

Dokken gets about as much radio play as Tall Stories. They're an 80's band and didn't get much airplay back then, when it WAS easy. They're Cinderella without the hits and a better guitarist.

George Lynch and Vito Bratta are two of the better guitarists from that period. Love both of those guys.

The reason they couldnt call it Dokken was legal issues between band members, so Don Dokken decided to just call it Don Dokken :)

I am assuming the legal issues were between Don Dokken and George Lynch since it's well known that those two don't get along very well. I also remember Lynch even having an issue with Don using his full name for the solo release.

Another interesting thing is that Dokken's best of album has one of his solo tunes on there. I bet Lynch just loved that.

You obviously did way too many drugs back then to remember what really was. Dokken had A LOT of airplay back then. If you want to be honest, you'll admit that your comparison of Tall Stories to Dokken was pathetic. There is NO comparison between the 2 bands. Dokken had many more hits than CRAP Cinderella and yes they had a WAY better guitarist. The duo of Dokken-Lynch was ALMOST as good but not as successful commercially as Perry-Schon.

Dokken, Cinderella, Winger, Mr Big, Poison, Tesla,,,, they were all bunch of 80s buttrock and all sounded close to eachother.... but Journey was a class better. Now if Jeff wouldve sang for Dokken in the 80s, then it would have been a different situation .... but then again, they wouldnt been called Dokken, maybe "Soto" or possibly "Rising Force" ?

Is it me or has this topic been hijack by 'dokker-lover' ? ;)

Is it me or is it just plain transparent that you clearly only like anything Soto?

Oh and by the way, as a matter of FACT, Soto has not sold numbers of records ANYWHERE close to any of the bands you list. HEEELLLLOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1.Unlike you, I dont choose my music based on what sells the best. In matter of fact I did listen to Soto for 20 years and he wasnt even famous!
2.If you read my 1st post about Dokken I was one of the few tha say I like Dokken, but youre goin overboard.
3.I didnt compare Soto to those band,,, What I was sayin was Soto would make Dokken sound better
4.Is it me or are you just here lookin for trouble ?

Back to the topic, I saw Mick Jones (Foreigner) fall off the stage a few years back in Nashville, they were opening for JRNY, I felt bad for him, he wasn't drunk or anything, he just ran into one of the monitors at the front of the stage and then fell.

Gotta partially disagree.Poison was a total shit band, but there was some really good musicianship in Tesla, Cinderella,Winger, and especially Mr.Big!!
Eric Martin in my opinion is one of the BEST vocalists in rock.
He's also done some work with Neal, and used to demo songs with Jonathan.
The guy is a soul belter if there ever was one.Lean Into It is a total classic.
They were never a hair band (neither was Tesla), they just got caught up in the image of the time. Also like most bands of the time, when they did the ballad, they were lumped in to the rest of the shit at that time!
Kind of the same with Winger. All of those guys are really good players, even if Kip was a bit of a cheese dick.

did that chorus sound like erics voice when he wasnt singing? i really havent kept up
with mr. big for years, since paul gilbert left... here richie kotzen is playing really good,
but not shredding,, i have an instructional video of him , i watch it for entertainment purposes only,, he is playing the most crazy complicated legato licks,, i guess he grew out of that when he got into a band.... 8) everyone that has ever been in mr. big is a top of thier game musician!! they should have been bigger..

very well written,, Back for the Attack and Under Lock and Key are some of the best hard rockin melodic albums of the 80's... george lynch is a guitar monster!!!

Big Dokken fan - Dyfunctional (renunion album) is a great album too, though live they aren't very good. Saw them at Monsters of Rock in 88 at the Silverdom and they were the worst of the 5 bands. Hell, Kingdom Come was better. There last couple albums without Lynch actually aren't too bad.

back on subject (for now anyway) Chicago came thru Memphis in late 84 on 17 tour. The band messed up on two of the song of that cd, and had to start over. When they came back thru about a year later on the same tour, they nailed them.-ERIC
