Basically, Journey now, either with Augeri or Jeff,
couldn't go into the studio, re-record something from the Perry days
and put it on the next album. That is the "rumored" stipulation I was
refering to/asking about.
Live stuff and video stuff is a whole different ball game.
I was talking purely Studio Recordings.

I think it extends further. Look at other bands that have replaced a key member - you see live albums out the wazoo. Not with Journey. Other than hits collections, album reissues, the few new albums/EPs, and the lone DVD, nada in terms of cashing in (live or studio) with a new singer doing the old material.

Hearing Jon sing Faithfully reminds me that nothing will ever be the same.

"In its first week at radio Jonathan Cain's remake of the Journey song
Faithfully was the most added song to radio this week as reported by FMQB.

This version of his Diamond Awardwinning song is a stunning duet with rising country star Mica Roberts. Mica is currently on tour with country great Toby Keith and has performed with Faith Hill and Willie Nelson.

When asked about the remake of Faithfully Jonathan said "I always wanted to try Faithfully as a duet.
It's challenging to reinvent a classic, but it's definitely a song meant for two people. I wrote the song about that, really."

That begs the question: Why were they able to release the Arrival 2001 DVD I'm assuming Perry had to sign off on that.

I never thought of it as a duet.

I do agree where he said it's challenging to reinvent a classic, and he did reinvent it, but not successfully. It's not horrible, but it doesn't hold a candle to the original version, either.

I thought I remember it being that Perry could clean up and release some old concert footage (the Houston 1981 DVD/CD). Is that what you remember the deal being? I thought I heard that somewhere.

I remember that being talked about, and it may be the case, but I don't think that was the original scenario. There was something else, but damned if I can remember what.

That would add up.
Perry seems to have been designated the custodian of handling all the classic stuff maybe it was "If you leave all of the love and care of the catalogue up to me with minimal input/interference I'll let you do the new live DVD."

Jonathan did a version on his 1995 solo CD, 'Back to the Innocence.' I think Neal even played guitar on the track. From what I remember, I think he said he wanted to record the song as he originally intended it to sound. I've got the CD packed away somewhere. It wasn't a bad version, but he wasn't recording it to make another hit out of it. Just to give his treatment to it.

I don't give a rip if I ever hear the Journey version again, so I prolly won't be tuning in to Cain's solo version too soon.


I would like to have the reocrd, though....have Bare Bones and Piano W/ A View both of which I play often enough.
