Danny Vaughn to support Journey? WOOHOO!!!

Postby joybringer1 » Fri Feb 09, 2007 12:08 am

It's not signed and sealed yet but Danny Vaughn has said he's in talks about doing an acoustic set in support of Journey on the upcoming UK tour. I have everything crossed as he's one of my favourite singers.

He's even recorded a Journey song! Download it here - he does a fantastic version of it http://www.vaughn.de/seiten/rarities.html

11. LOVIN’, TOUCHIN’, SQUEEZIN’ by VAUGHN

I was approached by a Brazilian label, Frontline Records to take part in a Journey tribute album. For the most part, I’m not interested in tribute albums, but ask a singer to attempt to sing Journey? That’s a challenge that’s tough to resist. You will have to judge how I did but the band was superb!
We recorded it, once again, at Sound Spa studios in an evening and I must say that I think this is a really strong version.
True to the original but adding a bit more guts to it. I have always adored this song and even got to throw in a live scat over the na-nas at the end that I have always sung whenever I sing along to the radio.
One of the reasons I think our version of this song is so fierce is that it features the live rhythm section we had recently toured with that included a new addition, Paul Mocci, on bass. He and Michael, are one of the most powerful bass and drum combos that I have ever heard. PJ was scorching on guitar and Kyle did his usual, awesome job on piano. The ridiculous, ending chorus of voices was Kyle, Steve DeAcutis, myself, and little extra help from old friend Russell Arcara.

If it is true, it is just great news! :D

I've seen him perform "Forever Young" from Tyketto in 2005 with The Sign in Belgium.
Fun fact it's that they had toured with JSS for a couple of dates in 2004 in the UK.

It's a done deal, spoke to Danny last night....he was kind enough to let me open for the Tyketto reunion in England a few years back, I did him the same favor in return in requesting he join the Journey run. An official announcement should be released soon. I love the irony of he being the singer of Tyketto & SA taking over after he left, now me with Journey. Cool coincidences :)

I liked his vocals on the Waysted album...Save Your Prayers, I think it was called...but I haven't heard much else. Looking forward to seeing him...

I saw Danny with Waysted back in '87. Kicked major Ass. They opened for Maiden and the irony is I saw Maiden twice in '87. The first time JSS opened and then Danny Vaughn a few weeks later.

Quick question.

Exactly how well known is Danny Vaughn here in the UK??

Just asking cos I ain't ever heard of him (mind you I hadn't heard of JSS before he joined Journey).

On the small UK melodic rock scene (think Firefest, Z-Rock), Danny Vaughn is one of the major names - indeed he's having a CD launch party with his band at the Rig in Nottingham's Rock City tomorrow night. He's one of those acts that aren't big enough for the major venues like City Halls but can just about fill the small circuit of dedicated rock clubs like JBs in Dudley, Trillians in Newcastle, Bradford Rios etc. when they tour as a headliner. They have a dedicated UK following, meaning that quite a few people will go to a Journey gig just to see Danny Vaughn. I would've done but luckily I was going anyway so I'm over the moon!!!

Great news ..... I've seen Danny many times before and he always delivers. Only down side is that I'll now have to leave the pub next to the Apollo earlier

Very cool. This should raise Danny Vaughn's profile a bit. The guy is an awesome singer/songwriter in his own right. Anyone going to these shows without knowledge of who he is will be pleasantly surprised.

Now if someone can only convince him to do a few US dates....
