Totally.
And what he does he get for his trouble?
A handful of tubesteaks who rip him for noting more than word choice and then clap themselves on the back going, supposedly for not being hero worshipers: "I'm not gonna kiss his ass just because he's JSS" and self aggrandizing crap like that.
What rebels. Such individuality and fortitude

Most of them are still just pissed because of tapegate RedJoe. They aren't even looking at Jeff for himself or his talent.

If Augeri had come on here and blasted back at those of us who were so against him most of those same people would have said he was a hero for doing so. Well, except for the ones that think he's a saint and above acting like a normal human being.

I still do secretly hope that with 3/4 of the original band now in Journey that we CAN get a Soul SirkUs sequel to World Play after we get the new Journey album.

I hope he sticks around, too. Watched their promo for New Orleans and thought, he is so enthusiastic about being in Journey; everybody surely sees that? Just radiates off of him... Another great post, Red!! :D

I'm wondering if the reduction in posts might just be that he's not on tour anymore. I would think there would be times of boredom on tour. I'm sure he's busy with his personal life right now, until he has to be back on the road again.

I happen to enjoy it. We have a bandmember who is accessible online and actually BOTHERS to take time to say hello to and interact with both the band's fans, his own fans and Soul Sirkus fans. I find his communications to be informative, amusing, cordial, and welcoming of all viewpoints, even dissenting and disapproving.
To those fence-sitters or opposed I find that he will engage in informed debate and back his points with mechanical know-how that comes from being a successful professional singer. This has rubbed certain factions sideways. He's been portrayed as talking down to people because of this. I couldn't disagree more with that. He admits missing notes or having off moments even though from the concerts I've listened to thus far those moments appear few and far between.
I find him to be positive and optimistic with his hopes of winning over current Journey fans, and adding new ones. I find his postings to be refreshingly candid and realistic regards to the fact that while he hopes to maintain all fans he realizes that there are certain people who cannot accept him, in fact resent the hell out him being in the band under the circumstances he was brought aboard (or any circumstance). He realizes that there's no pleasing those individuals and when attacked he makes every reasonable effort to engage in civil debate.
At a certain point he will reply in kind.
This I applaud, but others use his heart-on-the-sleeve style of interaction as a means through which to attack him. My hope is that he does not stray from being the down-to-earth guy he is because of this propoganda. My hope is that he does not grow to regret vehemently defending himself at times JUST BECAUSE some call it wrong. My hope is that in addition to continuing as our singer, that he keeps talking to us even though he will doubtless continue to be pegged as too rude and disrespectful by a thin-skinned but vocal minority who deconstruct his every posted word and then selectively reconstruct it.

You are so right.
JSS is one of the very few artists that actually cares for the fans. He's an extremely sincere guy and what I love most about him is that once he got the gig in Journey he didn't climb on a pedestal,he's the same open hearted person he's always been. That's rare...Usually once someone gets in the spotlight and is labeled as a V.I.P. the attitude towards the "crowd" changes. Not JSS - he is the friendliest rock singer I've ever met.

What people keep forgeting is that every rock star out there is vulnerable and human, but most of them never have the guts to show it and maybe are somewhat afraid to interact with the fans, because few of them can deal with criticism.
Again,JSS is genuine and reacts as anyone would - I admire him for speaking his mind and being passionate about his job.
I think he's perfectly aware that he will not please everyone, but I'm sure that it won't stop him from giving his absolute best whenever he will perform.

Something tells me that the future will prove JSS right...I see 10 fans coming in while that 1 pissed fan walks out. :)

Btw,Red...nice comprehensive examination. 8)

Good point. I'm also upset that there will not be any more Talisman albums. I've had "7" now for about a month and I can't stop listening to it. It's just fantastic! I got Cats and Dogs just the other day and it's pretty darn good, too. I can't believe that I've been missing out on this music (Talisman) for the past 15 years or so! I understand why there won't be any more albums, it's just too bad. Good stuff. At least I can still look forward to hearing all their other, older albums.

Jeff did say that after Talisman 7 was released, that they were going to retire the band anyway. Jeff and his bandmates said that Talisman had run its course. It was just fate that the Journey gig came up around the same time.

But there is Jeff's site to where we can get his past work. :D

Oh, I know all about the decision to retire Talisman. I just think it's a shame. I did buy 7 from Jeff's site, and since I couldn't get Cats & Dogs there, I cashed in an iTunes gift card to get that one.

I always thought the idea in the music business was to try to KEEP the fans that have been with the band for years, as well as try to GAIN new fans, NOT lose them!

Journey has already damaged themselves by "letting Augeri lip synch", so I would think that the last thing a new singer would want to do right at the start of him joining Journey is to create MORE negative controversy. Like making that ridiculous comment above that, "he see every 10 fans coming in, while 1 fan leaves". That remark seems to suggest that it is ok with him, if they lose fans , they can just get some new ones. I think that just makes him sound arrogant, NOT knowledgeable about how to "keep & gain" new fans.

Then furthermore goes after a fan on a MESSAGE BOARD that was simply stating her OPINIONS about how she thought "his singing sounded" to her. She made NO personal attacks towards him , but he certainly responded with personal attacks towards her. A message board is a place to state your opinions what you like, don't like, whatever. I think JSS made himself look REAL unprofessional when he responded that way towards her.

With the utmost respect to Properry, and I think she would admit as much, she is not a Journey fan, but a Perry fan ONLY.

I've said it before, I think JSS knows full well he could part the Red Sea, cure cancer and figure out pi to the 10,000 the decimal point even faster than "grad student" fredjourneyman, all before lunch, and he STILL would not be accepted as Perry's replacement alongside Perry's "sidemen."

So like it or lump it he knows he's going to be accused of offending by those people with just every post.

I also feel that when he is posting here, he's under zero obligation to post any different than any other fan who posts here. He is not at an official press junket so I do not hold him to the ass munching standard he'd be held to if he were.

Very true. However, there are fans that just don't want to stay,no matter what the artist does or say.Sometimes people leave the fanbase they've been in for long years for various reasons...Maybe fans change, maybe their once-beloved band change, could be all of this and more. So?A rock band should monitor every single reaction of the fans?Should they stop believing in what they do because some of the fans stop believing?THAT would be ridiculous.

Listen,Lori...I don't know how others work,but personally,if I don't care for an artist or a band anylonger,I just quit.I forget about them.
Hell,I was a die-hard Cher fan until she went friggin' disco! You think I went on her Forum bitching about her change of sound and looks? No honey,I just took a deep breath and broke out her old albums.Ok?
Seriously...if you don't like it,you don't have to eat it.

As for JSS,wth is everyone expecting from him?He was asked to join a legendary band,he accepted and is doing his job in the most serious professional way possible. The man is singing his lungs out on stage and working at 110% capacity, and I know what I've seen/heard!Some don't like it?Too bad.He is a true performer, and people should respect him at least for that!

Yes,I will always be a die-hard Perry fan (d'oh!),and I think he was the perfect match for Journey. There is hard to find another singer close to his league. But goddammit,JSS IS a huge talent, and when I see talent and passion in a singer I respect him.
If people would have the REAL picture of what a singer like JSS (or any other pro-singer) is doing in order to deliver his best performance,I bet they would just STFU.

Actually Red13JoePa, I AM a Journey fan of the Perry ERA ONLY, and of course of Perry's solo music, but that doesn't mean I can't give my opinion on the subject because I'm not a Augeri fan or a JSS Fan.

JSS has JOINED a band that has been around for many years, BEFORE he became the new guy, and does have some responsibility in the way he interacts with fans, and what he says to fans, particularly on a message board.

So by say saying that, "he is under zero obligation to post any different than any other fan who'd post here", then you ARE in agreement with me in saying that JSS DOES have some responsibility in the way he post HERE , just like any other fan HERE, He has to follow the rules, because this is Andrew's board, and Andrew's rules are NO personal attacks.

JSS made many more fans with the way he stood up for himself against that "fan" than he lost, Lori. And he is gaining more with every show.

I didn't see anything in JSS response that showed HE was DEFENDING himself , I just saw that HE over reacted big time, and totally lost it on a public message board for ALL to view. I realize many of you applaud that behavior, I don't!

And the Circle Of Gripes goes
round and round and round...

Face it, JoePa...
Nothing can be said to change the minds
of a few.
But hey, "For every 1 lost, at least 10 more will be gained!"

SUNG TO "BLACK BALLOON" BY THE GOO GOO DOLLS :)

Baby's a PerryLoon and she's high
Stevie's silence has left a hole in her life
But she's still thinking 'bout tomorrow
Cuz she is the same as me
But a bit naive

A thousand other voices could never reach you
How come Steve's the only one?
He's livin' life fine without you
And hiding from all of the loons just like you...

Come on down, your dream is over
Perry's done and he cut his hair
And Journey goes on as you get older
You haven't got a prayer...

You know the lies he always told you
about the songs he never really wrote
And all the things he never showed you
Like scars on his hip, it's a lie, what a flippin' joke, yeah...

Come on down, your dream is over
Perry's done and he cut his hair
And Journey goes on as you get older
You haven't got a prayer...

Welcome to Terminus... You hungry?

It is not about catering his communications to me , but it IS about responding in a respectful manner to something that is being said, even if it is not a fan of his, or doesn't like what the person wrote.

And I would say though that he is obligated to cater his communcation to Andrew, since uh, Andrew makes the rules here.
