Before anyone gets worked up , its not a big rockin cd, but lets face it these guys haven't done any real rockin tunes since they changed their format back in 1981. They went mainstream AOR ,power ballad and were great at it on high infidelity and had marginal success on cds to follow.

This is just a great AOR release. The first song starts as there strongest rocker for the cd(the only negative for this song is i wasnt really fond of the chorus for this song ,it seemed almost like it didn't quite match the rest of the song, leaving me to think they could have tried something else that could have worked better). Still, the song is growing on me quickly, the rest of the cd is full of song after song of catchy choruses and strong music.

Song 9-"born to love you" is sung by there bassist Bruce hall(A trademark for REO) my first impression is this sounded like a Randy newman type song(it initially throws you off because its a departure from Kevin cronin's voice)As you listen to this number, Kevin Cronin pipes in half way through with such a great sound for this song, you wish he continued(it leaves you wanting more).Listen to this song a couple times -it grows on you. This is a must have for REO fans, i would also recommend it to anyone who likes melodic rock

This is an EXCELLENT CD!! I love it and have not been able to stop playing it since I picked it up. Their best since High Infidelity! Every song is catchy and if radio today wasn't so messed up there would be four of five hits for sure. I would rate it higher than Andrew's 90 he gave it in his review. I am not surprised to see that you loved it too!

Fly ,thats Funny I actually meant to write that I thought it was their best cd since Hi Infidelity but some how must have got side tracked.

Hey Yulog,

It IS isn't it! Great stuff. I have many of the CD's you have reviewed.... But not all! I thought I was bad. LOL.... I pretty much agree with most everything you have posted. I am listening to the "Live" High Infidelty" now. Aaaaah the memories.

John mellencamp-freedoms road 2007...Okay this was a tuff one, i like his previous work but this one was some what lackluster for me.Most of the songs just didnt grab me at all ,and i went back and listened 2 and 3 times. The cd is not without a couple good songs, song 3 -the americans, song 7, Our country(which was played on car commercials last year)and song 10, rodeo clown are catchy tunes(nothing great ,but they are catchy) they rest of the cd just doesnt have much of that "it" factor ,meaning I have to have "it".This is the type of cd that gets put at the bottom of your pile and if it gets listened to it may only be once or twice. Lana lane-gemini 2007...when is this trend going to die already! Another covers cd, now by probably the strongest female voice since Ann wilson of heart. The thing is, she is a dead ringer for Ann wilson-she has a great voice! Theres 2 heart songs on this cd,(unfortunate that both songs are not very well known) give them a listen and it will be obvious how close their voices come to each other.

Songs on here include covers of,Cream, jefferson airplane, heart, pink floyd, foreigner and the moody blues.Sometimes the problem with these cover cds is song choice. I liked her version on both foreigner songs, and she sounded very good on the 2 heart songs(I wish she would have picked more of these, and more well known songs from hearts catalog) Otherwise i didnt really like the other songs(again some of it was just choice of song) This lady is a big talent and has alot to offer to the world of rock.

I'm going to have to say i'm on the fence with this cd, its possible that i have just grown tired of hearing these types of cds.Its just very hard to compete with the original versions of songs, you may do justice to a few of them but usually people will not like the difference between the original and a remake.

Atlantic-power 1992...I have come across this cd a couple times ,and always saw Journey attached to it.By being attached , people say its very journey-esque(i finally got my hands on this one).Well, listening to it i dont find it to sound like Journey but i believe it is in the same genre ,that being AOR.Its a very good cd, a little dated at this time, but still good. At times, the singer sounds like Coverdale and at brief moments i can hear a little Freddy curci, a good mix for this cd. I liked 8 of the 10 songs, upon first listen. I would recommend this cd ,an overall good representation of 90's AOR despite not ever hearing of these guys, or knowing anything about them.Image

Rush-Snakes and arrows 2007.... First off i am a fan of Rush but not new rush.I loved this band in the 70's and 80's, something happened to them in the 90's that left me bored with their music. lack of hooks, melody and at times power that was there in the beginning. That being said, heres another example of lack of hooks ,melody and power. I seriously almost fell asleep on this cd, and couldn't wait til it was over, just a disappointment all the way around.I couldn't recommend this cd(honestly i wouldn't recommend it if it were free, these guys are much better than this cd shows) Image

Allen-Lande the revenge 2007....I have been anticipating this cd for awhile, the last cd by these 2 guys was and is a heavy melodic gem.The first thing i noticed was this cd is a bit heavier than the last one, the first 3 songs had me worried because they are quiet heavy and i prefer when Jorn sings more melodic.Songs 4, 5, and 6 bring us back to some great melodic (heavy) music.Overall theres something here for both sets of Jorn's fans.Personally, I enjoyed there last album more, this cd is still a close 2nd. If you like Jorn, hard rock, or heavy melodic rock this is a very good cd and worth the listen.Best songs are below:

Master of sorrow
will you follow
just a dream
Gone to far
under the waves
When time doesn't heal

Interesting, I'm hearing so many mixed things about this CD. Either people love it or hate it.

I just got this today and haven't had the chance to listen to it yet.

I agree with the review as compared to previous eras of Rush but I still like it. As far as hooks, who cares. Melody? this album has plenty of that plus some actual guitar solos by Lifeson. Not among my favorite Rush albums but still not bad.
