Kevin has a ton of his own material and has been a very active recording artist.

A lot of people have wondered how he would have sounded if he had been in Journey - this CD helps give some idea - that's it really.

Ironically I can't even hear the soundbytes here at work. I will be getting the CD though.

I agree.That's the bottom line.

I also take Chalfant's words as the reason for doing this poject:"Over the years, my fans have requested that I cover Journey's music. This cd was conceived to satisfy those fan requests."

If a good experienced singer like KC has the desire to cover some great tunes that he loves, why not?He does not ridicule them, nor diminish their original beauty.
He's has done good thing,I for one like it.

Just heard the two clips and must say, wow...this guy is good!

One one hand, it's very interesting hearing another persons take on these songs...especially since Kevin not only stays true to the originals, but makes them his own buy the vocal reflections and slight unique melodies. I must say too, his vocals are strong AND melodic. SA never had this trait....to me he was always reaching....sounded low in the mix, and never had anything close to Perry's power.

On the other hand---while I enjoyed these two clips, it's very difficult to do a cover (in any capacity) of a Journey song. First and foremost, you've got the incomparable Perry....accompanied by great song writing, arrangements and excellent musicianship (individually and collectively).

Kevin will definitely get some kudos for this....there's no doubt he's got the chops.

His voice has the 'X' factor....makes me wish Perry would return with anything new.

Thanks for posting the clips.

I'm not taking anything away from Kevin's talents. I played the shit of of the Storm CD when it first came out, and would have loved to see him in the group and just have Perry continue on his solo career. But...like Cyndy said, it sounds like he's being so careful with each note. I'd rather have seen him have fun with it and take the songs in another direction.

Nothing against Journey's choice back then, but hearing this made me think that Kevin would have been much better for the band after Perry left.

Truly amazing....I love Kevin's voice......

Not sure if someone who wants to pay a tribute to Journey can take those songs into another direction. They are perfect the way they were written...Any change would mess them up.

Ask Jeremey...Would he change the direction of any of the Journey songs he's singing?

Hell, even Journey themselves,JSS included, are staying true to the originals.

I guess that's why KC is paying so much attention to each note.
Just my 2 cents.

Then why re-record them?

They are great, when i spoke to Kevin a while back he was going to do a carreer retrospective, sort of best of Kevin Chalfant if you like with Lights as a bonus song.I would imagine so many people have wondered what he would have sounded like that he has put this together to let us know! :)

The guy is a very good singer and I have nothing at all against him. Given his history with the group though, this just hit me more as proving a point than paying tribute.

Those clips are pretty good but I don't think I'd enjoy them any more than I have the Augeri versions. I will say, however, that, from what I've heard, he's a much better live singer.

Ever since the first time my brother and I heard "I've Got Alot To Learn About Love", I've wondered why this guy isn't singing for Journey. Still wondering :?

Music all comes down to personal preference. I think Kevin Chalfant is a good singer and I enjoy his work with The Storm, however these two clips do nothing for me. He can sing the words and the notes but his voice does not touch my soul or make me feel anything. If others want to hear him cover Journey songs, what's the harm? Just don't imply that people who aren't into this project are Perry loons.

That's exactly what I thought when I read about this a few weeks back.
Why now??? I'm sure he had heard about the JSS-fronted Journey's idea
of re-recording the classics...
I love KC's voice and most of his other projects but
this really made me wonder if he's still pissed off about
being passed over, not just once but, TWICE for the Journey gig.

I know. I don't quite get it either, but, whenever I have that question for anything the answer is always seems to be, "money". Apparently, his fans will buy it. Nothing against his voice, he has talent, but I don't hear any depth or soul in the clips...he kinda reminds me of SA. I also think image is a big part of Journey & he didn't quite look Rocker front man to me from what I've seen in The Storm video (but, I did like that song - whatever it was, can't remember??)

I'm not implying that if someone isn't into this project that they are a loon. I am saying that those that are pissing on it and acting like he has no right to do it, are loons.

There is a difference.

Also his stuff cracks me up:

"I just don't see the point", "He should just spread his wings and work on his own material"

It's like the loons are threatened by any thought of someone else recording a Perry sung Journey song.

Geez, Heaven forbid if Kevin C sells a couple hundred CD's (max) to people curious to hear him sing Journey songs. With some money going into past/present Journey members pockets on top of it.

AR's last line says it all, and is exactly what I was going to post here. It's money in the pockets of the writers.

For those who are wondering why Jon re-recorded Faithfully as a duet, go back a few years and listen to his solo re-recording of Faithfully. ANYONE can do that song better than Friga can sing it, solo or duet wise. Kevin has the voice for it, not THE voice, but the voice to be able to sing the songs. Why jock him for paying tribute to the guys he knows and likes so much as friends and former bandmates. How many albums has Kevin sold as his own original material? Everyone else does tributes, HELL, Journey does cover songs from tiem to time, are the same people jocking Kevin gonna jock the band for covering someone elses sogns? Oh yeah, I forgot, "But it's different, when they are Journey songs".

Loons is right, AR.

The timing of this release says it all.... he is saying "I should be Journeys singer!!"

I think we all would have been happy from day 1 if Kev had got the job.... even though Jeff is nailing stuff now..KC is a natural for this kinda stuff!

Its designed to embarrass possibly??? think hes sayin ..."This is what you coulda got" ..confident that he has the voice
