Either you're a Beatles person or a Stones person.

I'm not the former.

Neither is Journey and the Beatles a comparison.

I'd rather have ONE Beatles than a million Journeys any day of the week.

So you're saying Journey's music is negative, and they are not good players. :?

NIG- Not sure where you got that... That's not where I was going...

I'm saying the Beatles were magical and there will never be anything like them again. Journey, while excellent players who had magic of their own, are not on a par with The Beatles for what The Beatles brought to the world. The Beatles are pretty much universally loved (except for St. John of course), sold bazillions of records and STILL DO, were relevant in more than just music, were trend setters in everything from music, fashion, film, thought, etc. The Beatles were revolutionary and changed EVERYTHING about rock and roll and the way bands, entertainers, and music production was done.

Journey was a killer band that had some great albums and exceptional players an amazing vocalist, but to put them on the same level of The Beatles doesn't fly (to me). Not speaking as musicians- Journey are easily better players, but just everything else.

The negative comment was more in reference to the doom and gloom shite that's out there and left over from a lot of grunge bands of the 90s. Don't just bitch, offer some friggin' hope, positivity, etc.
I'm SO tired of negativity EVERYWHERE. From high gas prices, the war, negative music, us vs. them, etc. etc. etc.
At least in the 60s (and hey, I was just a wee tot then) the youth was hopeful for the future and were trying to change it. Now, it seems the youth only care about their ipods, cell phones, computers, "bling" and whether or not Hilary or Paris is in rehab. It's a funky time in the world. At least U2 is trying to make a positive impact on the world.

Sorry, kind of strayed from the point...
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

I getcha, Bry. Just seemed like you used Journey as an example of the negativity, since you used them as your comparison. Maybe a "million Nirvanas" would have been better?

Gregg Rolie was a huge Beatles fan. I bet he loved it when JOURNEY was a quartet like the Beatles.

I don't think you can compare them, either but I think JOURNEY was influenced just like many other bands.

I know rolie liked the Beatles, i know old journey covered (very ably, too) a beatle number (I think even Neal said he listened to Beatles albums).

Doesn't mean I'm blaspheming to say I don't get them.

I guess I can appreciate them, but I'm not gonna be forking out for Revolver or Rubber Soul anytime soon.

I referred to Journey because this is a Journey group. But yeah, you're right. I'm FROM Seattle and I didn't get off on Nirvana as much as everyone else did, though I do like a lot of their songs. The best thing they ever did for me was when they were on MTV live and Krist Novachelic (sp) threw his bass up in the air and missed catching it. It hit him right in the head, knocking him over on the stage.

I laughed for about an hour. Who said Nirvana never brought happiness to the world?

;)

I prefer the Presidents of the United States of America to Nirvana if we're talking Seattle 90s bands. Those guys are damned funny!

Dang! Those are the best albums, I'll upload them to you if you like! Revolver is a classic. Shit they're all classics! I know that by today's standards, their music might seem a bit passe' and trite, but you can't knock their melodies AND most of it is timeless and doesn't sound dated to me.
I know you're not blaspheming. Doesn't matter anyway. And I DO like the Stones too btw.
Journey did a great version of "It's All Too Much" which is a pretty obscure Harrison song. I liked Rollie on that.

Oh, know YOU weren't saying I was, good Bry.

That defense was for Socrates, Jr up there trying to lecture me on Journey history.

I love the Beatles. They were my introduction to rock 'n roll music fandom. I was a real Beatlemaniac all through high school.(forerunner to Perryloonacy  ) Does anyone else remember the outbreak of garage bands in the late '60s that were inspired by the Beatles? Every highschool around the greater Omaha area had at least two with names like the Excels, Diplomats, Viscounts, Barracudas, and one in the San Joaquin Valley called the Sullies. There would be at least two or three dances in the area on weekends with these bands playing in various kinds of halls that could be rented for the purpose. That's what the

There is a pic around somewhere of a 14 or 15 yr old Steve Perry sitting under a drum kit under a Beatles poster. It came from the BTM I believe and I used to have it but can't seem to locate it right now.

If I look hard enough I bet I could find a picture with me under a fuckin' Beatles poster. Perry obviously had major influence from Motown, NOT the British invasion. He doesn't sound like the Beatles on even one song....thankfully. Perry had more range and lead singer artistry than the fag four combined. Those LSD-dipped, bearded, hippy, Euro-scabs couldn't compose a song like Mother Father if Yoko Ono decided to give them their balls back. Not to mention they sucked live.

If SinJin didn't do it before, he did it now. Brought the Lennonloons wrath by adding that dagger of an insulting adjetive.....

Call them ANYthing, but nobody, I mean NObody calls Lennon...

I'll grant you the Motown influence. Actually, more the Specialty or RCA influence since Sam Cooke was never on Motown. Listen to The Beatles in 64/65. They were the first band to play stadiums EVER and to sell them out repeatedly. Their attendance record at Shea Stadium stood for at least a decade. Those concerts were great. ALL WITHOUT MONITORS to hear themselves over a wall of screams that no other band had ever received before or since. Watch the Washington DC show they did when they first came to the states. It was a friggin' riot and they killed, all without being able to hear themselves. But by 66, they didn't care anymore and those shows, granted, are pretty bad.

LSD-Dipped... yeah for about 6 months they did acid and then Lennon did heroin and got off it. Cold Turkey indeed. Who didn't do drugs back then? Drugs and their long lasting effects were new then and it wasn't realized what damage they could do. I also don't think Acid was illegal when they were doing it. I'm sure that members of Journey didn't do any illicit substances... uh, yeah. I've seen Rollie looking fairly stoned in clips and photos before.

Do you just hate them because Lennon's naivety allowed him to fall in with people like Jerry Rubin or what? You're pretty vehement in your loathing of the fabs. Just curious.

Without them, many others would've never followed. Without them, we might still be listening to Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon.

Saint John,

You are lacking a soul. Euro trash ? Sounds like a judgement. The Beatles and John Lennon had as much influence on the course of modern music as the electric guitar. You are entitled to your opinion of course however I suspect you are in a VERY small minority concerning your feelings for Lennon. Ok, dislike the guy but talking that shit about someone just shows a lack of class. Mother Father ? Please...... Almost every song they did on Abbey Road (and thats just one album) eclipses Mother Father in almost every way maybe accept vocals which are more than made up for buy some of the most enduring songs ever written. Time has been way more friendly to Beatles music than it has Journey. I do agree that Yoko drove John loco. She is a succubus and he loved her dearly. I think she brainwashed him.

The moreI hear about this "news story", the more I loathe George Michael and his "partner" for what they've done with this piano. Granted, once you buy something, even something that's part of music history, it's yours to do with what you want, but this is just as idiotic as a blowjob in a public bathroom. Maybe more so.
